joel So next week at this time we “should” know who the president-elect is and we will be able to watch Dancing With The Stars or a football game without seeing the guy with the protruding ears, or the protruding cheek.
But there’s still a good full week of political commercials to go, so I thought I’d exasperate the issue by showing famous political ads from days gone by.

joel This is not Grandpa Mead’s newspaper anymore.
Though it’s not unheard of for the Erie Times-News to endorse a Democrat for president, the paper’s Editorial Board has historically leaned conservative with their national picks.
That’s why it is a little shocking that the paper, which continues to be owned by the very pro-business Mead family, not only endorsed Barack Obama for President, but also Kathy Dahlkemper for Congress in the 3rd District.

joel Last week we asked about your next technology purchase. The largest percentage said they would be buying a flat-screen HDTV. The next two most popular purchases were a gaming console and Blueray DVD player.
This week, I want to get your opinion about the media coverage of the presidential race. On Wednesday the Pew Research Center released an analysis of how the press reported the 2008 campaigns of Barack Obama and John McCain. Their opening statement says it all:
“The media coverage of the race for president has not so much cast Barack Obama in a favorable light as it has portrayed John McCain in a substantially negative one, according to a new study of the media since the two national political conventions ended.”
What do you think? Has the press been down the middle or biased either way.
Has the presidential election media coverage been biased?

Confirm as a friend: Striving to use all avenues available to communicate with the viewing public, Dwight Miller, President of WQLN-TV tells P&T that there is a Facebook fan page now available with the latest news about the station’s antenna situation. The latest news is the climbers were on the tower Friday (10/10) morning installing a temporary digital antenna at about 300 feet. Previously we reported that when the Q goes back to full power, it will be broadcasting only in digital. UPDATED: The Q is back on-the-air in digital only, using a temporary antenna at 300 feet reaching a portion of their normal viewing base. Full power will be up around Thanksgiving.

joel Perhaps in prior election years, you may have had an odd video tribute to a presidential candidate end up on a random website here or there.
But in this era of YouTube, which didn’t exist in the last election cycle, you have the new media of homemade political ads. Of course you have probably heard of the Obama Girl videos, the original appearing in June 2007 (I Got a Crush…on Obama) and at this writing has reach over 9.7 million views.
An ad for Obama uses an historical perspective to make its case:
A homemade ad created by a McCain voter has received some strong media attention recently:
