Poll: are 3rd District ads helping you make up your mind?

For a couple weeks our readers have weighed in on which Erie Times-News columnists they look forward to reading. Some 41% of P&T poll respondents said they never miss a column by Managing Editor Pat Howard. A quarter said they’ll read Ed Matthews column regularly, and 15% don’t miss columns by Liz Allen, Kevin Cuneo, or Dave Richards.

Labor Day was the unofficial beginning of the fall political campaign, although we have seen political ads on TV all summer here in Erie. The Washington pols love Erie because it’s so cheap to buy time here, and in one spot break on Monday morning (9/20), the entire pod was filled with ads referring to either Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper or her opponent Mike Kelly, except for one PSA. Not all these ads are directly from either campaign, but many come from the Congressional committees or private political action groups.

PA-3 is bound to get tons of money infused into this campaign because Dahlkemper is considered to be vulnerable as the first Democrat to win in 2008 after decades of Republican representation in this area. So six more weeks of accusation and counter-accusation.

Are the ads having any impact on the way you will vote?

Are the TV ads for Kathy Dahlkemper and Mike Kelly helping you make your voting decision for PA-3rd District Representative?

  • I have already decided (83%, 39 Votes)
  • I'm still undecided, but the ads are helping me decide (6%, 3 Votes)
  • I'm not interested/I will not vote (6%, 3 Votes)
  • I am still undecided, and the ads are confusing me further (5%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 47

The Feed for the Weekend of December 20th & 21st

  • Ms. Mengine goes to Washington: former broadcaster, marketing consultant, and Erie mayoral assistant Tina Mengine has been tapped as Chief of Staff for new Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper. I first met Tina some 20 years ago when she managed an area radio combo and I was selling TV campaigns for Film House. She has had a very strong career ever since, including performing duties as acting mayor in the waning months of the Fllippi administration, and setting Mrs. Dahlkemper on a course for victory in the 3rd Congressional District this fall. Tina will head Dahlkemper’s Washington office.

Times-News picks Obama, Dahlkemper

This is not Grandpa Mead’s newspaper anymore.

Though it’s not unheard of for the Erie Times-News to endorse a Democrat for president, the paper’s Editorial Board has historically leaned conservative with their national picks.

That’s why it is a little shocking that the paper, which continues to be owned by the very pro-business Mead family, not only endorsed Barack Obama for President, but also Kathy Dahlkemper for Congress in the 3rd District.

Two races make Thursday “must see TV”

Amazing races of two different kinds have made tonight an evening of appointment television (or radio if you prefer).

First, at 7:00 PM on WQLN-TV & FM and simulcast on WJET-TV, it will be the final and only live televised debate between the candidates for the Third Congressional District of Pennsylvania: incumbent Phil English and challenger Kathy Dahlkemper. Kim Young of WQLN will moderate this last meeting of the candidates, where Dahlkemper is running the strongest race against the veteran English in over a decade.
