Deep Background for May 3-9, 2009

First, let me say “Thank You!” to all of our readers of The Press and Tower, as we celebrated our biggest week in terms of traffic last week, with April our biggest month since our launch. I appreciate your participation and support of the blog.

We’ve been talking a bunch about many topics and sometimes viewpoints tend to be heated, so I want to reinforce the civility value we hold dear here at P&T. Each commenter deserves to be heard, so whether you agree with a point of view or not, it’s important that you keep the discourse respectful and with good cheer. Ad hominem attacks have no place here.

So in that spirit, embrace the chaos!

Deep Background for Apr. 19-25, 2009

It was such an eventful week in Erie media that I covered only one of the stories I thought I’d be covering! We have multiple conversations going on right now: the YouTube video of the Erie policeman that has now received national attention, the big changes for the news staff at WICU and WSEE, and we haven’t even begun to discuss the newspaper’s price increase and the current radio ratings battle (or lack thereof!).

Let’s keep talking, remembering that constructiveness and civility are key. You can always make a private comment via email at joel@nataliemedia.com or through Twitter @pressandtower.

We had quite a spirited discussion here on The Press and Tower last week. Let me encourage you to engage in the debate, while keeping civility and generosity of spirit utmost. That way the conversation stays fun, important, and credible.

Please feel free to contact me directly with your private comments at joel@nataliemedia.com.

Deep Background for Dec. 7-13, 2008

We celebrate randomness each week on Deep Background; eggnog optional. Tell us your scoops, ask the hard questions, be silly or sarcastic…just as long as you are appropriate and civil.

If you have a item you’d rather handle privately, please send me an e-mail at joel@nataliemedia.com.

Deep Background for Nov. 23-29, 2008

It’s the turkey week edition of Deep Background, our wide-ranging, sometimes snarky, often entertaining discussion of the Erie and national media landscape. Feel free to sing praises, complain, or float a trial balloon, all in a spirit of civility and good cheer. It is the holidays, don’t you know!

If you have something that is really off-the-record and would rather float my way, my email is joel@nataliemedia.com.

Deep Background for Nov. 9-15, 2008

We continue to have great conversations on Deep Background, which is created for an off-topic, random discussion of media issues that you want to weigh in on. Ask and answer questions, shout-out your opinions on the media topics you want to talk about. Remember we want to be constructive and civil while tackling important issues together.

If you have a news tip or private question and you really want to go “deep background,” don’t hesitate to email me at joel@nataliemedia.com.
