Without a lot of help from me, the readers and commenters here on P&T engaged to another 3,000+ page views this week. Thanks!
On this atypical, relaxing Sunday morning, I have to gush about how much I enjoy the Sunday morning newspaper reading experience. I know that the Erie Times-News gets a lot of criticism from these pixels and other inked spaces, real and virtual. But for me, as I learn about my surroundings from what I call “the everyday miracle” of a published newspaper, my pleasure synapses fire.
This morning, my first read was the Page 1A cover story about the rise of truancy in our city and county. Next, I shared with my wife the snowfall totals in DC, Philly and Baltimore…it’s funny how much glee we Erieites receive when others get buried with snow! A weekly must read for me is the Pat Howard column, who’s cranky take on most issues seems quite reasonable to me. Finally, it’s onto the Editorial pages, where this week the Board has established it’s Agenda 2010.
Do I agree with it all? Certainly not! Do they get it right every time, or do they always keep their bias hidden? No way. But the voice of the Erie Times-News is as valid as any other, and the millions of dollars they invest in newsprint and bandwidth continues to be a cataylist for making Erie “A Better Place.”
Your responses welcome here on this open forum, or email or tweet me.
Embrace the chaos!

The criticism the ETN receives locally is no different than anywhere else in the country. Everyone, or nearly everyone, loves to hate their hometown paper. I’ve noticed that wherever I have lived or visited.
Still, even the worst of hometown papers are better than no paper at all. Nothing comes close to providing the same depth and breadth of community life for better or worse.
And the ETN is far from a bad paper. I venture to say it is one of the better papers for its size of circulation. I think it was once a much better paper, but that’s true for most.
Was I the only one whoo was not able to watch the Super Bowl in HD? Gametime comes it goes all goofy then black.
I am a TW subscriber.
Just curious if it is my equipmnet . Both 12 and 35 were affected but no oterchannels in HD were …
Noticed the last couple of nights that 35 has hired a new co-anchor to work with Lisa Weismann.
Yes, I noticed the new anchor combo on WSEE as well. I believe the last market Scott McDonnell worked in was Springfield, Mass. He was a reporter.
He went from the 111th ranked market in Springfield to the 146th in Erie? I thought the idea in local tv news was to slowly move up to the bigger cities. I guess he wanted to be an anchor REALLY badly and didn’t want to wait for a better opportunity.
He’ll be outta here in 1 year…definitely better on-air presence than Mr. Bremner.
He’s in for quite the wild ride at WSEE.
Checking the CBS3 web site, it appears to be a low-power satellite of WFSB in Hartford, which has always served as the CBS station in Springfield, albeit with a limited news presence on the Mass. side of the state line. WFSB is a long-time powerhouse (I grew up watching shows like Sky King and Ranger Andy on it, one of the few stations you could get in Greenfield, MA), but I don’t know if if this LP is a major news player in Springfield, which has two long-time Massachusetts-focused newsrooms in Channels 22 and 40.
For being 111th market size, CBS3 has the same amount of reporters/anchors that WSEE has. Kinda suprising. Scott McDonnell may not last here but its refreshing with Lisa and Scott M. doing the news instead of Mr. Bremner.
