Deep Background for October 11-17, 2009

You have to hand it to Aimee Clemson. I don’t think I can recall a local personality who can create such impassioned reactions to her activities since Pat Campbell was on the air on Flagship 1330 in the 1990′s. That usually indicates star power, and I have a feeling that we haven’t heard the last of “The Outlaw.”

This is our open forum, and as such we are wide open to converse about anything Erie media. Considering some of the negativity that has been flying around this blog lately, be forewarned that I’m using the “edit” button pretty freely these days. So keep it civil and constructive.

Joel Me thinks you give to much credit to someone who is not worthy of even the SMALL amount of publicity she garners. Crude is still Crude.

Joel, I think you are absolutely dead on! Good or Bad, everyone is talking about her. There’s a thin line beween love and hate. She’s too big of a personality to just be considered neutral or average. The DJ’s that leave without leaving an impact are forgotton. The Outlaw is stuck in our brains. In my mind as a friend and beutiful voice, in others who knows, but one thing is for sure. She’ll be remembered!

Star Power? Let’s be very careful that we don’t buy into the same sensationalism that ruined radio with the deregulation of the industry.
There was a time when on air personalities could be clever, witty, entertaining and cerebal versus today’s formula for success…crude, crass and tasteless.
Today, radio host hide behind labels like “conservative” “liberal” “moderate” etc. but the hate that is spewed is not different.
There is not much difference in my opion between Rush Limbaugh, Don Imus and D.C.’s “Grease Man”. Each is out to shock an audience into tuning in witheach outragous bit.
If that’s where we are today with the state of radio then I’d rather listen to intermitant road rage rants along West 12th on my way to work.
god knows that there isn’t a frequency available in this market worthy of my quarter hour!

I’ve noticed something that perhaps someone can clarify. I don’t believe this was simply a “deja vu” moment but, Wednesday morning I was listening to the jazz station from Mercyhurst and heard a set of three songs and then announcer, Bonnie Grise (who I believe is syndicated) mentioned the artist and titles.
Then, during afternoon drive, I thought I heard the exact same songs and announcement. Is the station rebroadcasting morning drive later in the day? I have also notice alot of repetition of songs on the playlist. Is that common on jazz formats, especially syndicated ones?

Time Warner has restructed the Northeast Ohio division.

“The division has been reorganized into two service areas: Metro, encompassing greater Akron and Cleveland; and Suburban, comprising the outer belt of the division, including Erie, Penn., south through Youngstown, west to Mansfield and north to Port Clinton.”

No specifics on how this will impact service.

Nice to see the “Weekend News at 11″ with Lisa Adams on BOTH 12 and 35 AT THE SAME TIME! I’m trying to be positive about this “merger” but after seeing the same newscast on both stations at the same time I have come to the conclusion that the WICU/WSEE/Lilly “merger” is truly a lost cause.

    RIP WSEE 1954-2009
    RIP WICU 1949-2009

    What a shame!

  8. PR says:

    Tim,
It’s all about the bottom line. And in the Lilly’s case it is the bottom!

  9. Just In says:

Why would you want to watch both 12 and 35 at the same time? If its so terrible that they share a weekend 11pm newscast then watch 24. At least a shared newscast is better then Bremner on the “Insider” on 35.

  10. Tim says:

If they are going to share a newscast they could at least work it out and make it professional looking. “Weekends Now with Lisa Adams” couldn’t they come up with a better title?? And the graphics are terrible – Design School students could do a better job.

I like how they introduced the weather. First it was “And now 12 News 3-D Futuretrack” and then immediately after “And now Weekends Now Weather.”

I don’t know which will happen first? Brian Lilly will destroy what little audience Channel 12 and Channel 35 have left? Or Jay Leno will destroy NBC? Close call on that one…I’ll say a little of both.

  11. PR says:

If Leno dstroys NBC lead-in to the 11 PM news it won’t matter what Liily does. They won’t have anybody left to watch the fiasco. “As the ship continues to sink and the captain stands on the bridge telling everyone they have nothing to worry about.”
