Deep Background for September 20-26, 2009

Another big week in media (so what else is new!).

Premiere week on network TV, the Times-News gets its paper “back in gear”, pundits fear that President Obama is getting too much media exposure, Lilly Broadcasting raises $140,000 for cancer research in basically three hours, and Glenn Beck stick his tongue out on the cover of Time.

Just a quick reminder that this is a forum of civil and constructive discourse; ad hominem attacks on participants have no place here.

Folks, I just want to give you a heads up that there may be momentary outages this week here at Press and Tower as we move to a new server.

I apologize in advance for any inconvenience and be sure to stay with us, because some cool stuff is coming very soon!

I missed the WSEE Noon News today. Is Channel 35 using the new news set yet? I only hope that WSEE can do a live newscast at the same time as WICU and that they have new, updated graphics and some new bells and whistles. It would be a shame to move WSEE into WICUs building and not give WSEE an identity of its own (7pm newscast anyone? hint hint) I’m going to believe Scott Bremner when he says “great things are in store” for WSEE – after all he has been saying that since the move in June…so hopefully a live 7pm newscast is coming…or maybe even the ability to have a live 6pm newscast at the same time!?

On a related note: If the WSEE move to 3514 was to save money then why is the WSEE building still lit up like a christmas tree at night? The lights are still on in the lobby as well. I thought it was costing Lilly Broadcasting way too much money to remain at 1220 Peach?

Why not just turn out the lights and shutter the building? That should save even more money.

Did you notice that 12 is using the 35 outside weather-cam for their Skyview 12 shot? What happened to the camera that was on the tower at 3514 State? Did it die?
