Breakfast Club reunites Saturday on WYNE

They’re back!

The Breakfast Club

For a single six-hour love fest, the “Original” Breakfast Club, who woke up thousands of Erie radio listeners on Classy 100/WXKC for what seemed to be a generation will be reuniting Saturday afternoon from 12 Noon-6:00 PM on WYNE-AM 1530. Captain Dan Geary, Terri Bohen, and Newsman Dave Benson have been apart for over 12 years now; interestingly enough, the team broke up soon after the signing of the 1996 Communication Act that ushered in consolidation and the corporate takeover of the radio airwaves.

When you listen to these very talented personalities, you are bound to get a few flashbacks of what great radio used to sound like…enjoy it for the moment. There is a special chemistry and intelligent sense of humor that is rare and certainly undervalued in this era of bottom-lining and voice-tracking.

Thanks for this special gift Breakfast Clubbers…and make sure you share some pictures (and recordings) of the homecoming!

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

  1. Ted Benson says:

Is there an internet link for us out-of-towners?

  2. My friend Joel and fellow radio devotees……many thanks for your kind words….you know I’m a big proponent in truth in advertising …let it be known that we voice tracked (oh how I hate that) Saturday’s broadcast on Thursday. What you will experience this saturday from noon to 6 is quientesential radio the way it use to be and the way it should be today, will be Saturday and is at WYNE AM 1530.
It was as if we had just been off for the weekend when we cracked the mikes……pretty phenomemnal when you consider our last broadcast together was on March 19,1997 ! So after 12 years, 4 months and 17 days join The Captain, Terri Bohen and Newsman Dave Benson for a stroll down memory lane. I am working on creating a podcast of the show for download…..and we do have a moment of silence of the late, great Jack Tirak and then a funny story about the day he visited us and we all had Jack Tirak masks on that we had crafted from a photo we found in the newspaper….remember the internet wasn’t much then…since it was basically housed in Al Gore’s basement.
Again thanks for your kind words….and on behalf of Terri, and Dave….this is Captain Dan saying…..until we meet again…be good to yourself….be nice to your neighbor….and may the Good Lord take a liking to you !

I had to pull off the road from the bit the morning after Scott Baker passed out on the air at a town meeting. One of the funniest things I’v ever heard on radio.

  4. Former Radio Guy says:

“radio the way it use to be and the way it should be today”

Captain…my Captain…the line is true…but today it’s “radio the way it used to be…when broadcasters did radio…and the way it will never be…as long as bean counters run stations.” Voice tracking…how traitorous…

  5. PR says:

There has never been, and will never be, another one like Capt. Dan. HE IS THE BEST!

  6. Heavy D says:

I moved to Erie in 2001 so this was before my time, but having a crew on with the right chemistry is genuinely magical.

Do you think BOB will have a reunion like this?

  7. Joel says:

The BOB reunion would include personalities Hewie Packard along with a dude named Dell reminicing about the days when things in radio were much slower…about 1.2 Ghz.

  8. David Stayduhar says:

I’m just getting to these posts. Been lagging behind a lot lately, even in my own blogging. Cap, I’m sorry I missed this, sir. I remember listening to the very FIRST breakfast club and the “good morning” jingle would always go off like clockwork right after my own alarm would wake me up in the morning. I miss those days something terrible (of course, even though I was only a ‘kid’ during the duration of Classic Erie Radio, I wish it could go back to the old days of K104, WJET, etc. and the personalities who KNOW what radio is like and aren’t sellouts for the “old green god”. Keep the flame alive, sir, and I’ll be backing you all the way.
