Deep Background for July 5-11, 2009

Deep Background is your open forum to comment on all things Erie and national media. Often it’s about something totally random, which leads me to this question:

Who remembers the Bon Jovi concert in Erie on July 25, 1987? I just saw a repeat interview of Jon Bon Jovi on 60 Minutes tonight, which piqued my curiosity. I wasn’t living in Erie at the time but heard about the Bon Jovi show at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Were you there? Did you work in media at the time and maybe get backstage? Just wondering…

WMCE and WYNE, two radio stations owned by the same entity, yet one station get top billing with two separate frequencies, internet and tv exposure (through Hurst TV), and yet WYNE is kept basically silenced amongst the grape vines in North East… so to recap WMCE… top billing WNYE… no billing WMCE… lots of exposure. WNYE… who are they? What’s up with that, Mercyhurst?

  2. David Berchtold says:

Of course, WNYE is a radio station and npr outlet in New York City, with a neat web site and probably better exposure than WYNE which is what I meant to say. Forgive the typo. It’s pretty embarrasing to misspell the call letters of a favorite radio station.

My point is that if WYNE can’t be heard, then they can’t sell, and they die, which is a shame for the only Oldies outlet in this area. I would go to Canada, but now I need a 100 dollar US passport for the trip. Forgive me, but it sucks to be an oldies radio listener in Erie!

No I’m not in the media for a job. But yes I was at the Bon Jovi concert rocking my butt off. That was the second of three times I’ve seen them live.

I remember it was a HOT day. The crowd was being sprayed with hoses to keep them cool.

Keel was the opening act. Good band, shouldve gotten a lot bigger than they did.

The BJ show was good. But being outside in the middle of the afternoon really lacked the entire BJ concert atmosphere. Without the lights and the effects, it takes away from the show. Had it been at the stadium at night, it would have been awesome.

Too bad Bon Jovi is “too big” to come back to Erie now. Maybe Johnnie boy needs to remember his roots. Especially since he saw his first concert at the old Erie County Fieldhouse.

Lets get Bon Jovi to play in Erie.

When..When…When…will WICU pass thru NBC HD programing over the air in Erie????!!!! It is almost unwatchable the way it is now. Do we antenna people in the county matter!!! Is anybody listening????

  6. George says:

On june 29th, I received an email from the technician at wicu and he stated that he hopes to go hd within 2 weeks.

  7. PR says:

Brian Lilly doesn’t want to hear your whining. He’s too busy counting all the money he’s saved by destroying 12 & 35.

  8. Tim says:

I’m afraid PR is right. If Brian Lilly isn’t listening to all the complaints about getting rid of Raychael Vendetti and destroying the morning show then he sure as hell isn’t going to listen to any complaints about OTA HD. Sorry.
