WJET-TV’s Mike Gallagher has nearly “moved in” to Clara Ward’s new home at the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build here in Erie. He’s getting major access to what is essentially a “closed set” because he is producing a behind-the-scenes documentary for both JET-TV and the builder on the job, Maleno Development.
During our live blog from the build Monday morning, I sat down with Mike to talk about the stories he is discovering from this project in Erie’s inner-city.

Beautiful Mike…absolutely beautiful. What an informed message.
Gallagher….Yawn
Please cover your mouth when you yawn……nicely done Joel.
Let’s just open the handy dandy folder marked “IDIOTS”, next door to “ILL CONCEIVED COMMENTS” and “ILL CONCEIVED BLOGWATCHERS”, and see who we find. (all 3 folders are loaded).
Ah, PR once again shows his true being at Erie Blogs.
And the pearl of wisdom?

“Just because they apply doesn’t mean they’re smart enough to pass the test. I don’t want some dummy trying to rescue me. The old days of just shooting water are gone. You need to have a good education and be able to think about what you’re doing before running into a burning building. I’ll be surpised if any minorites nake the cut. Of course then the black clergy will want to dumb down the test so their boys and girls can pass.”
and the response by edgy 1
(could that be my buddy Kevin Cuneo, the edgiest of edgy in Erie?):

“That stands to reason, PR, but I don’t think anyone should have to pay 50 bucks just to apply. All the qualifications you mention are necessary, but lets not toss anyone out without a chance to try. BTW, being so hatefully racist is not a very good example for someone who is putting down an entire class of people.”
So at Erie Blogs, PR is “hatefully racist”.
And at Press and Tower, PR gives equal hate to whites and non minorities with his illustrious observation of the “yawn”.
I always read comments before a post.
I have yet to read about Gallagher above.
But, whatever is there does not deserve the caliber of comment a PR can produce.
If anone in the audience needs a sucker punch, a below the belt hit and run, a kick to the groin, or simply needs to be hated, post a comment where PR can see it.
He will follow through as he always does in his impeccably poor taste style.
As for Gallagher, my memory of him goes back to taking a little girl from Erie under his wings and training her to report Sports. Her confidence grew from that mentoring.
From there, she went on the Tonight Show, The 9 daily, Yahoo, and national fame, with a stint on the Red Carpet for the stars. Maria Sansone represents Erie well…..thanks to an early eye for talent by Gallagher.
As for Gallagher, I recall the sideline hit at a Brown’s game, that would lead most folks medically unfit to continue any endeavor. He fought back to live daily.
There is no yawn on the planet for that level of perseverence in real life.
When I saw CRANK, citi : ) , PR, and Erie BlogWatch aka Erie Blog Watch all in a row in comments here, I thought I was on the defunct GoErie Topix board…….removed from this community for the propensity to hate.
Please don’t let it happen here Joel.
Press and Tower is too classy for this cult.
Danny, please – no one is the saint they might appear to be. Without disparaging anyone inparticular, there are two sides to a person’s “desire” to succeed – the professional one, and the “personal” one.
Working for a broadcasting company on Peach Street for a number of years I was fortunate (or unfortunate) enough to see both sides of a few people. A seven-minute sound bite does not make up for past mistakes.
I’m not perfect, nor is anyone else I know, but please be realistic and view things in black and white. Ten to fifteen years ago many sports writers at the Times were Prep grads, and more than once slighted McDowell in their stories. Professional? If we push a talented individual along to further their career, is it right to keep wanting accolades decades after the fact?
Joel does a great job allowing comments and opinions from everyone, and I appreciate him taking on this enormous effort in the footsteps of Jack. Please don’t mock the dialogue by continuing to make your posts so personal.

Oh my God! Here we go again. I have no problem with any of PR’s comments. He has a Constitutional right to his opinion – so does Danny Lucas, Chris Tarbell, etc., etc. I am a little troubled at the labeling of PR as “hatefully racist.” I am also a little disturbed that Joel would let this comment remain on Press and Tower. I thought Press and Tower would allow commentary as long as it wasn’t personal and kept at a respectful level?
I don’t think “hatefully racist” is a respectful comment – but it is a personal shot. PR is a friend of mine. I had the great pleasure of working with him while we were both at a local Tv station here in Erie. PR taught me a hell of a lot about shooting news video and then editing – when others were either unwilling or unable to “show me the ropes.”
Mr. Lucas, I respect your First Amendment rights to free speech. However, I am DEEPLY offended at your remark of my friend as “hatefully racist.”
To Joel: maybe it is time to review and edit comments a little more thoroughy? Whatever happened to courteous and respectful? “Hatefully racist” is neither.
Thanks – now off my soap box
Danny Lucas said: And at Press and Tower PR gives equal hate to whites and non minorities with his illustrious observation of the “yawn.”
Good grief! I guess I will probably be attacked by Danny Lucas for my defense of PR? Oh well, guess ad hominen attacks are back in vogue?
I found nothing offensive with the “yawn” remark.
Here is one of my own: Danny Lucas…..”yawn!”
If you want to ban me for my commentary and defense of my friend than so be it. Nice blog!
I have a busy day on my real job and verbal knife fight breaks out!
Please guys, take the personal attacks out of your comments. Everyone gets a chance to post their views here.
Danny, comparing P&T to that cess pool Topix is a real insult.
(frustration)
Fair game for all.
Hot kitchen too.
Now, all can scroll up and attribute the comment line “hatefully racist” to its source…..
edgy1 at Erie Blogs in a rebuttal to PR. I thoroughly agree with edgy 1 in his assessment.
You are attributing the call to me; not true. And if you read the PR opinion that made edgy 1 state the phrase, you have to pretty much agree.
Not one comment here (after mine) acknowledges the plusses of Gallagher either. I weighed both PR and Gallegher in my comment.
As for media sports favoritism, I was a Prep boy dating McDowell gals, so it means diddly to bring that slanted reports into this discussion.
NOWHERE is Gallagher seeking accolades as a mentor.
I brought that up as a recall of my own.
Do not doublespeak that Gallagher is seeking accolades.
If that is in this thread, I have not spotted it.
Last, as I typed, PR and his yawn was above me. No one else. By the time I submitted comment,
The Captain in Comment 3, sucinctly said the same as me. He disagreed with PR in a most fashionable way.
Had his memo to PR appeared before I typed, I would likely have deferred comment, as the point was made.
But the quote from Erie Blogs made by PR speaks for itself. And if you have not read it, or scrolled by to spit venom before reading, then reread or comprehend.
Whoever edgy 1 is, I agree with HIS classification that the comment was “hatefully racist”.
And Tim needs to go to Community College to enroll in Comprehension 101. READ the quote by edgy 1 and comprehend the souirce of the line.
READ the quote by PR that elicited the determination by edgy 1.
Flailing me for pointing PR-isms occurs everywhere, does not stop the pessimistic opinion. I was happier with The Captain wording to PR, but since my quote is directly from Erie Blogs, either there is a misquote, or I have accurately reported what PR said there, and what another called him for saying it.
You media boys flunk reading.
And Chris, this is Joel’s baby.
Let Jack rest in peace, eh?
Joel,
This time you and I simultaneously posted.
The blog post here at P&T on Bush visit to Erie and media bias brought a plethora of Topix commentors here. I viewed a lineup and saw them in a row, read none, and visited another blog for the day.
P&T is NOT compared to Topix.
I DID request that you not let it happen.
There is a difference.
And my request was motivated by seeing posts by Topix regulars, now showing up at your venue. I considered it a “heads up”, not a critique.
In retrospect, I would make one change and post that paragraph on the Bush Blogpost, where the Topix commenters commented here (politely, I add), instead of linkage to this article.
I regret that error.
I will also point that as moderator, you are witnessing a lot of your audience attribute a quote “hatefully racist” to me, when MY comment gives clear attribution to the true source, and why he made it.
Reading, digesting, and responding to commentary is different than reading a telepromter.
I stand by my comment that PR made the statement.
Edgy1 took him to task on it.
And this audience can not tell an attributed quote when clearly attributed.
My apology to you Joel if there was a scintilla of thought on your part linking P&T to the dreaded Topix Forum.
Seems to me when nasty names are called or written the person passing the info on is as guilty as the original.
Did we need to know what PR is being called in another blogging area?
I think not. Unless we also want to start trouble.
As usual, there are two viewpoints.
#1 Wrong viewpoint
#2 Danny’s viewpoint
AS USUAL. I TOTALY AGREE WITH JIMBO…
