Thanks for calling 1-800-corn dog......my hands are free and I'm carrying a dozen donuts......with thanks to Dave Kaelin for one of the best answering machine messages ever.....I still have it but don't use it.....hmmmmmm....maybe I should.

By the way Dave....who pumped sunshine assuring you that you had the talent to go to Columbus? Just asking.

Great interview, Joel! Dave is a great talent and part of what made JET-FM 102...well, JET-FM 102.
One thing you two left out of the interview: The One-Hour Joke! As I remember, Cook and Kaelin would set it up right after the 4pm news on JET-FM, then deliver the punchline after the 5pm newscast. Music, information, and entertainment; live and local. And Dave, I still have that Escape Club cassette that I won for correctly identifying the #1 song on the "Top 10 at 10" :-)

Joel:
I worked in Columbus at the same time as Dave and we did a few TV/radio cross promotions with NCI.
Everytime I am in Columbus, I tune into Dave and Jimmie (...Jam the Hairy Man).
One of my favorite bits was when Dave rode a COTA(Equivalent of EMTA) bus around town "live" during morning drive. Dave had total strangers singing, one side of the bus and then the other, to the tune "Row, Row, Row Your Boat.". But Dave, being Dave, changed the lyrics to ...

                       "Ride, ride, ride the bus
                        off to school or work
if you don't ride a COTA bus
                         you're a stupid jerk"

He also once tried to remove the stench from the Columbus waste to engergy plant but putting up hundreds of "Stick-up" air fresheners...it didn't work.

And of course, his song parodies are legendary...
"Butt Crack" sung to the tune of "Love Shack"
"Livin in Chillicothe" (you have to be from mid-Ohio)

Nice job on the interview, Joel!

Dave is a guy that 'gets it' when it comes to the current status of the radio business.
