I feel like I keep repeating myself, but we came off of another record-breaking week of page views here on The Press and Tower, with last Tuesday being our biggest day ever (hint, hint prospective advertisers).
Keep the conversation going, and while you are crafting your next pithy quote, why not put your order in for your “Member of the Erie Media Elite”, or “Former Member of the Erie Media Elite” t-shirts. Our introductory sale ends next Monday, June 15th.
As always, private message me at joel@nataliemedia.com or tweet @pressandtower.
Embrace the chaos!

Radio has no “Close Caption” so it is of no value to me.
However, it remains a hot topic here at P&T.
I recently “read” about radio that “caters to your sick musical needs:
Surf
Hot Rod
Rockability
60′s Garage
Hillbilly
Psychedelia
Country
Primal Pop
It is on every Friday 9:00 – 10:30 PM out of Minneapolis/St.Paul. (It streams online).
If your ears work, and you like radio stuff, check here:
http://www.radiorumpusroom.com/
Just because radio is of no value to you because of your challenge, music is an important part of many peoples lives.
With this in mind I don’t feel it should be refered to as “something that caters to your sick musical needs.”
I have a handicap also, but I certainly do not think of other people as sick because they can do what I can’t.
It’s obvious from his posts here, and on other sites, that Danny is very closed minded when it comes to others views.
It must be Wednesday, because we a have few folks in a grouchy mood…let’s lighten it up, gentlemen!
It seems to me that all people, except Danny, are chastised on this blog. I have read character assinations here, by him, but nary a word mentioned from the editor.
I”ll try to “DUMB” this question down to an acceptable level of understanding.
WHY?
In the spirit of Joel asking to “lighten things up” I will post a joke to try to break the ice:
“I gave my cat a bath the other day. He just sat there. Actually, I think he enjoyed it. It wasn’t very fun for me, though. The fur kind of stuck to my tongue.”
- Steve Martin
Completely off topic and a completely stupid..if cute, joke! Since it’s in Deep Background all is good.
Have a great day, everyone!
Tim, I liked that. Thanks and you have a great day also.
One of the Steve Martin classics – I think I have it somewhere on an eight-track tape.
“Boy, those French: They have a different word for everything!”
– Steve Martin (again)
Missed a few days here.
JIMBO,
the line that offends you is directly from the site at the posted link. It is NOT my statement, thoughts, opinion, or attribution. I put it in quotes, but see only an open quote mark, no closed mark. So you could think I said it.
But click the link and you will see the boast at the site.
I posted it for music lovers and radio fans to enjoy.
Indeed, I believe that music is the only universal language in the human race, and have great appreciation for it. My reference to not hearing is a personal lament, not a complaint.
I travelled the globe for two years with a musical group.
No defense of music is needed by me.
Click the link in comment 1, and you will see I simply quoted the site.
I appreciate your switch from all caps as you comment.
Change is not easy, but your words are now easier to read.
PR finds me close minded. I can find just as many folks who deeply articulate an opposing view, so I must be in the right spot as I comment.
If one person makes a gripe on me, PR is among the first or second comment to follow to join in. I guess that is open minded.
But this post is for any topic, so I take PR in stride as legend would advise.
Joel has kept a decent moderation here and all of us know what happens when there is poor moderation. The worst of everyone snowballs.
Even now, I entered P&T on another thread, moaning of “ignorance”. I have no clue what it is about, for I exited as fast as I read the exchange and saw a downward spiral developing.
Then I came here.
Knowing the moderation level at P&T, I felt comfortable that my submission in comment #1 was safe from criticism by the blog owner. I can’t fathom anyone getting riled up about a link, and almost everything I wrote was from the link, for folks to decide if they want to listen on Friday.
You say Joel is unfair in moderation? Maybe you should review all comments, and see who holds a record of “edit” (I did that). Joel “edits” me often and the record is reflected in many spots here.
But I don’t whine about it. It is his blog and he can call shots as he sees fit. I don’t ever recall an “edit” by Joel on JIMBO. Should I scream unfair at that?
For the record, I travelled with a musical group around the globe for two years.
If the game was “NameThat Tune”, I would win for music has been part of all my life. Of course, you would have to sign language the game.
And since you are fond of jokes, and share handicap status, let us go to golf.
Arnold Palmer was playing at a course when an audience member yelled aloud “I could beat you any day of the week Arnold”. Palmer shrugged it off.
Every hole played, this guy yelled he could beat Arnold Palmer at Arnold’s game of golf. On one hole, he yelled a bet of $1,000 that he would beat Arnold.
Palmer walked over to the guy to learn that the guy was blind. A blind guy was screaming he would beat Palmer at golf.
Palmer decided to shut the guy up and declared a $1,000 bet was accepted and that he would win any day and any time.
The blind man said “Ok. We tee off at midnight”.
I heard (from others) that things were a bit bumpy Thursday at that fine example of Swiss Watch precision known as WICU/WSEE.
First off it seems that John Last did a report on the Community College and didn’t realize that Rethink Erie and the Regional Chamber are the same group! That’s OK, John has been in broadcasting almost 20 years and is bound to have a bad day every now and then – happened to me, happens to all of us…but to not know both groups are one in the same? I wonder why no one at the Regional Chamber pointed this out to John?
Second it would appear that Emily Matson had her package air without sound not once but TWICE! OUCH! I realize that s**t happens but to let a story air twice without any sound is not good. Why wasn’t the story pulled immediately after several seconds of silence?? Are robots running the show? Whatever happened to quality control?
I’d be interested to know if 12/35 is still using tapes for playback or if they have switched to video servers. The confusion that they can cause could result in the audio problem. Shouldn’t happen, but does with the servers. People think they’ve replaced a bad video, when in truth, they haven’t. That being said, if they still roll tape — there is no excuse.
I think that everything is now loaded onto a server. I don’t think they use tapes anymore for the news.
This is the link to the video KDKA-TV played just before signing off their Analog signal forever:
http://kdka.com/video/?id=58784@kdka.dayport.com
Nice to see Gateway Center can still knock one out of the park!
Classy…Classy…Classy
PR, thanks for that info, I think that probably explains why the audio-less tape aired twice.
Tim, Thanks for the link. As a part-time employee of one of KD’s competitors, that is a big reason why they’re still KD. They care about their past and their viewers. The rest of us just try to please ourselves and listen without question to our consultants. How much great PR do you think PXI would have gotten if they had stood up to NBC and let the Pens fans have the big screen outside the arena ? My bet is KD would have.
Go Pens !!! My son and I are off to the parade soon.
