WICU is broadcasting in digital on channel 12.1 as of 8:30pm tonight (Sunday, June 14th). The programming is being sent out in standard definition with a 4:3 aspect ratio; the high-definition feed is not available yet. Rescan your converter box to add the new channel if you have not already discovered it.

I have a question regarding how my 16:9 HD set displays the pictures I receive from DISH Network.

On many, if not most, of the channels, any type of chyron or other graphic images that are near the top and bottom of the screen bleed halfway off of the edges. I have tried to make adjustments to my set to compensate, but nothing seems to work.

    Thoughts?

  3. Doug says:

WICU’s digital signal was broadcasting until a little after nine this morning (June 15th). Then it was turned off. A short time later, WSEE and its subchannels went off-the-air, too. Tower work seems like the cause. They were likely testing WICU’s new signal last night into this morning. Stay tuned as Erie television becomes full-power DTV.

    We live in Westfield NY.
We have Channel Master 4228 antenna and rotor with a Winegard amplifier.
Our average location from the transmitters:
    Erie – 28 miles
    Buffalo – 54 miles
    Toronto – 94 miles

We got Erie WSEE, WICU, WJET & Buffalo WGRZ, WIVB, WKBW 98% of the time in cooler weather. Now at the warmer times or more humid times of the day WJET goes out. WSEE & WUCU 35.3 intermittently go out. WICU 12.1 has only been on for a short time however we are able to get is off the back of the antenna without any problems this far.

We get Buffalo WNLO-23, WUTV-29 & WNYO-49 98% of the time when the antenna is facing Erie or most any direction. When aimed at them its 99.9% of the time.

We also get 35.2 from Erie. The rest of them have never come in our location.

Any suggestions on improving our Erie reception?

    Thank you,

    Bob

I have found the coolest thing online. JET 107.9 streaming from southern colorado http://www.jet1079.com. Remeniscent of our old JET 1400, KDZA plays a MUSIC format… I believe it is a Classic Hits format. Owned by Clear Channel, it leads me to believe that there may be some hope for Corporate Radio. Time will tell.

WICU and WSEE resumed broadcasting their over-the-air digital signals about an hour after they left the airwaves this morning. Where I live, WICU and WQLN are the strongest signals, WSEE provides me with a moderate signal, and WJET and WFXP seem to be the weakest.

From what I hear 3514 State is a VERY unhappy place these days. Guess that is what happens when you have a combination of:

    - POOR Management
    - Lack of Strategic Planning
    - Failure to LISTEN to your employees
    - (insert your suggestion here)

  9. legend says:

Tim, are you sure you’re not talking about a Pittsburgh station. Your description fits the place I visit for a paycheck on the weekends.

Seriously, I think that is how many stations are these days. With all of the cuts and do more with much less attitude, morale, if there is any, is very low. It’s tough when you’ve put the majority of your life into something, and then find out experience is something that is frowned on now.

Best wishes to those at 12/25, all I can say id hang in there…hopefully things will change at some point.

    WWW. World Wide Web.
But it is treated differently in countries like China and Korea (to name a few).

We are closer to the format in England.
England’s High Court has changed the rules on blogging.
In a latest ruling, there is NO right to be anonymous in a blog.

Think of getting a ticket for going through a stop sign in a subdivision. Could you get a ticket for going through that intersection 25 years ago, before the stop sign existed?

In the blog world in England, YES.
What you say as an anon or pseudo anon is now up for grabs to be linked to you.

Given the format of Press and Tower comments, it behooves all to be aware of what is coming here too.

Legend, since we are talking about Pittsburgh :) you will be interested to know that today at Noon KDKA-TV News started broadcasting in High Definition (I know, the last station in Pgh to do so!) It was a very nice looking set with a slight variant on the onscreen Chyron font.

Best part about KDKA TV News in HD? Sonni Abatta – YES!

  12. legend says:

I knew it was going to happen, I just wasn’t sure when. I’ll have to tune in soon. Can’t argue about Sonni.

  13. PR says:

Pittsburgh TV announced that the layoffs started today at WQLN. Also, the problems with WICU were tower related. Check out the latest…
    http://www.pbrtv.com/blog/index.html

Also, Topix board says that there was a big blow-up today between Scott Bremner and Julie Eisenman. I’m sure that Scott is not happy with his situation, but needs the job to pay the bills. Sounds like things are not going smoothly at 3514 State St.

  14. R.I.P. WSEE says:

Just for #$%&@ and giggles I visited the WSEE website and found “Erie’s Dirtiest Jobs” still up and running with reports by Rachel Vendetti. I sure hope Mr. Lilly is paying residuals.

  15. PR says:

Word on the Topix board is that Joey S. is not happy now that he is no longer the head cheese in the Wx Dept. Seems he dosn’t like playing 2nd fiddle to Rob. Joey always did have an ego problem…it could be his downfall.

PR: Most people in TV have an ego problem… and I don’t think his is the largest in the Lily family

What happened to JC? Is he still with the company?

Craig Layne’s leaving WJET to return to Harrisburg. He brought professionalism to JET/FOX. Good luck on your next journey.
