Poll: is Erie finally ready for DTV?

About two-thirds of our respondents to last week’s poll felt that unions are getting totally rolled over by media owners during this current downturn. Only 15% voted that the unions were fully-engaged, even while their members ended up on the beach. The Digital Television Transition

This Friday marks two weeks before analog television for US full-power stations goes bye-bye. Since I’m hearing no rumblings in Congress, it looks like the date will stand. Here in Erie, only one TV station, WICU, remains in analog. Since we have not seen any major hue and cry, especially since the first commercial station, WSEE, switched to digital, my assumption is that our market is ready for full-digital. However, you know what they say about assumptions…

Are Erie viewers ready for the final conversion to digital television?

  • Yes: everyone I know have made provisions for the transition by now. (75%, 27 Votes)
  • No: I still know of friends, relatives, or work places that will not recieve any television after June 12th. (25%, 9 Votes)

Total Voters: 36

I’ve heard complaints about WJET not reaching downtown Erie. Check this forum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16523129#post16523129

OTA signals from WJET do tend to break-up at times, depending on where in the room you are standing. WSEE, sadly, remains a no-show. I have cable and am therefore unaffected, but everyone I know that relies on over-the-air transmissions and bought the converter box remains unable to receive any of 35’s signals in and around Erie. The link that John posted above has comments from other consumers who also cannot pick-up WSEE.

WSEE is a problem for me at times as well and I expect WICU DT 12 to be a problem as well. Both WJET and WFXP are rock solid in the sticks with an outdoor antenna. WQLN is pretty good most of the time though there will be interference issues in the warmer months with two other DT 50 channels out of Akron and Pittsburgh. However, I decided not to pay for Erie locals any longer through Dish since I can get every major and minor OTA network with my antenna configuration.

It’s funny that people in Erie can’t get WSEE because I live in the furthest reaches of the county and get WSEE at 100% signal strength. I don’t get that with any other channel, mid-70’s at best.
