So did WSEE do news this weekend? Or are they now out of the weekend news business?

Another “end of an era” announced this week. Starting July 4th weekend, “American Top 10″ and “American Top 20″ with Casey Kasem will cease production.

Therefore, the only way to hear Casey will be through “American Top 40 – The 70′s” and “American Top 40 – The 80′s” distributed by Premiere Networks.

R&R and now Casey Kasem. Quite a week, eh?

Hey, maybe when Extreme Home Makeover is in town, they can stop by 3514 State and do a “Extreme WICU/WSEE Building Makeover.”

So they technically can do two live newscasts, its just a matter of a wall to maybe separate the two sets?

The new control room alone won’t allow two live newscasts.

The reason is that the WICU and WSEE sets that are now being used are in the same room. So even if you could have simultaneous broadcasts from a technical perspective — which should be possible since they ran WSEE master control at WICU for months — practically it won’t't work because you would be able to hear the other anchors in the background.

I’m not sure if there are multiple green screens in there but if not that would also prevent simultaneous weather, reporter appearances etc.

Great ideas. It’s a time of re-inventing TV news anyway, so why not take the bull by the horns and go all the way ? You’ve probably already lost the 6 pm audience anyway. Create a new audience for a new product. The old ideas are just that these days — old. Try some new ones…what really is there to lose ? I’m very impressed, great ideas.

What’s the story with the new control room coming in a few weeks at WICU/WSEE? Will it make a difference? Will ANY of the news on WSEE be live the same time with WICU? Will Ray’s weather be live at noon? If Breaking News happens between 5:30 and 6, will WSEE go live since they are taping at that point? Or will WICU cut in? Things to ponder.
