First, let me say “Thank You!” to all of our readers of The Press and Tower, as we celebrated our biggest week in terms of traffic last week, with April our biggest month since our launch. I appreciate your participation and support of the blog.
We’ve been talking a bunch about many topics and sometimes viewpoints tend to be heated, so I want to reinforce the civility value we hold dear here at P&T. Each commenter deserves to be heard, so whether you agree with a point of view or not, it’s important that you keep the discourse respectful and with good cheer. Ad hominem attacks have no place here.
So in that spirit, embrace the chaos!

“Channel 7, WLS Chicago opts out as local TV newsrooms pool forces”
http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=291163
The following comments from Channel 7 President and General Manager Emily Barr nail it right on the button:
* “They asked us if we were interested, and we just politely declined”
* “We want to remain a very strong, independent voice. And the best way for us to do that is to maintain control over all aspects of coverage.”
My PERSONAL favorite:
* “I would argue that the photography is as much a part of the story as the words and the sound.” AMEN!
Emily Barr also added that SHE “DID NOT BELIEVE SENDING CREWS OUT WITHOUT A REPORTER WAS GENERALLY A GOOD WAY TO SAVE MONEY.”
“You want to have somebody there to ask the questions and know that the photographer has his or her back.”
Wow! A TV Station President and GM that does not believe this is “the worst environment in the history of broadcasting” and is willing to spend money to make money and maintain the brand!? STUNNING! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!
A shame that Brain Lilly doesn’t learn from this. Read that the 35 non-air folks should learn this week who gets the axe (or is it knife in the back?). Stay tuned…the deabacle continues.
I hear that Jen Mobilia is gone.
Its pretty sad that our professional news organizations check their facts. The other day two stations reported a stabbing in the 4200 block of Davison. Too bad it was really in the 300 block of Wallace though. Coverage you can count on is on our side…if they were only right! Trust me I 100% correct that they were wrong.
Here are some interesting features from NPR’s All Things Considered on “Advertising in the Downturn”.
First, a piece on Google advertising:

I recall hearing a song on the radio back many many years ago as part of a Name That Tune type contest. The song was entitled Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl by an english act known as the Barbarians. I just recalled the memory of that song today and found a YouTube clip. Some investigative research uncovered the fact that the song peaked at number 55 on the Billboard charts. By no means was it a popular hit and yet I heard it FIRST on an Erie radio station. What has become of the rare gems from the record libraries of yesteryear? And why are they being kept hidden from today’s generation? I wonder if Rocket would have this on their hard drive?
Latest is the BL didn’t give the pink slips…YET. The new date is 5/14. The count down continues.
