Poll: are you listening to less Erie talk radio since Rush left?

Last week we asked if the media was hyping the economic crisis. An overwhelming number of you said “yes.” Just another indication of the continued slide in respect and trust in the news media.

This week’s poll is a little self-serving, but this is my blog…

I don’t know about you, but I find it really silly that I have to endure significant static and manuvering of my radio just so I can listen to a half-hour of Rush over my lunch, because my local station couldn’t sell enough spots to pay the clearance fee.

I’m not some ultra-conservative robot who takes everything Rush says at face value, but I do agree with him a lot and find him very entertaining. By not having him on, and finding Dennis Miller a totally-inadequate replacement, I am listening to much less of any talk radio from Erie. I’ve been sending my few quarter-hours of time spent listening to WBEN/Buffalo, WMGW/Meadville, or WABC/New York via online.

Have your habits changed at all?

How much Erie talk radio are you listening to since the Rush Limbaugh show left the market?

  • Less: If I can't listen to Rush on a local station, I'm listening to him on out-of-town stations, or generally listening to less Erie talk radio (64%, 29 Votes)
  • About the same: Whether Rush is available generally has no bearing on how much I listen to talk radio in Erie (24%, 11 Votes)
  • More: I enjoy Dennis Miller and generally enjoy what Erie talk radio has to offer (12%, 5 Votes)

Total Voters: 45

If you are having a hard time finding Rush on the radio, you can listen to it online at http://www.thebigtalker1210.com.

    Might I suggest another choice?
How about I don’t listen to talk radio since there are no local shows/news.

  3. Tom Lavery says:

Check out WKBN 570 Youngstown or WTAM 1100 from Cleveland. Both have great programs after Rush including Ron Verb on ‘KBN and Mike Trivasanno on ‘TAM. I really thought that WJET 1400 (Then WLKK) was on to something when they had localized version of “Hannity and Colmes” with Barry Dain Steinhagen to the left and Jeff Johns to the right.

Talk radio in Erie is just a total waste of the 1400AM freqency. Hell, I can’t even get a up-to-date local news report–IT’S ALL RECORDED! It’s sad what the mighty WJET has become. Pitiful…

  5. CRANK says:

Don’t listen to Erie radio at all anymore. Listen to WABC for Imus, listen to 760 AM out of Canada for music and stream Rush off the net.

To Erie advertisers, if you are trying to reach my wallet, Erie radio won’t do it for you.

  6. Tom says:

I listen to Rush on WBEN and went with Sirius about a month ago for music and news.
I catch a couple minutes of the morning show on Jet, but it’s rather lame.
You would think with the only local radio show they would be able to stir something up, make it interesting.
Maybe this town is too tightly controlled and there is a fear of stepping on toes.
Whatever their reasons for being wimpy and lame, I respect their decision and simply choose to not listen.

  7. Paul says:

same here, I like Ron Verb in the PM and miss when Casey Malone was on with him.

  8. Heavy D says:

the G.M. at Connoisseur, Dave Calebrese, was fired yesterday. Is it possible dropping Rush after 19 years was a factor?

  9. Former Radio Guy says:

Highly doubtful oh Heavy One…I’m sure that the call on Rush was made at the CORPORATE level…
