What’s hot at CES 2009?

The focus at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show seems to be the living room, observers say.

DVICE reports that Web-enabled TV’s, which allow consumers to download online content without a computer involved, are being released by all of the prominent screen manufacturers. They note a study done by Toshiba that when allowing participants the opportunity to connect to RSS feeds through internet-connected TV’s, 25% of them did so. That’s a huge acceptance rate for a new technology.

I’m particularly excited about a new net alarm clock radio by Sanyo  which uses wi-fi and can tune right out of the box into over 2,000 U.S. internet radio stations. All About Jazz is saying that the R227 is fufilling the exciting role that the old Kerbango net radio had before the dot-com bust in 2000.

Another huge trend that has been years in the making is the extension of wireless capabilities. Linksys is rolling out a wireless music system, while Gefen is shipping a Wireless for HDMI Extender which uses Ultrawideband technology to literally stream HD content.

Finally, in computers, look for very light weight netbooks to get some press. HP is rolling out a 10-inch Mini-Note 2100, with a fast Intel processor for under $500.

Even in this down economy, there still a place for the gadget guys among us, if we still have some Benjamins burning a hole in our wallets.
