Just a quick hit this morning as you continue the wrapping, get ready for the Christmas Eve party or gathering, and church this evening.
What is the Christmas song you always turn up when you here it on the radio? I have several, but right now it has to be “Merry Christmas, Darling” by the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter was a singular talent, and no one has been able to match that recording, although Amy Grant has given it a good run.
What’s your favorite, “always crank it and sing along Christmas song?”

I have always loved “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby, but it’s the Muppets & John Denver that make me nostalgic for the Christmases of my youth.
Merry Christmas, Joel & everyone.
Dan at the Community Blood Bank
new favorite: “Mary did you know”
classic favorite: Ray Conniff Singers (it’s what I grew up with!)
For crankin”…Step Into Christmas…Elton John
For a quiet Christmas Eve…Do You Hear What I Hear…Bing Crosby (gotta be Bing…no other)..Either that or Nat King Cole’s “Christmas Song.” (again…no other will do)
Oh Holy Night gets my vote (especially the Steve Green version) but I agree with Mindy and love “Mary did you know”.
I agree with Mindy, growing up for me it was always the Ray Conniff singers.
Modern favorite: Mariah Carey “All I want for Christmas is You!”
Favorite CLASSIC Christmas song: (Tied) Nat King Cole – Oh Holy Night or Johnny Mathis – When A Child Is Born.
Favorite NEW Christmas song: Straight No Chaser – Twelve Days Of Christmas.

Danny,
Great link! Loved it!!
This year I checked a couple of new (to me) Christmas CDs out of the library. One of them was Celine Dion. Most of the album was okay, but nothing that got me going too much. But…..Celine’s rendition of O Holy Night was stunning! It left me speechless and with a heart filled with praise for our Lord.
Here is a link to the the video of her singing this wonderful song…unfortunately the sound quality over computer speakers doesn’t do justice to it. It builds to an amazing conclusion…

Thank you for the gift of your kind words Roger.
Merry Christmas.
If there is a version of O Holy Night out there, it is in my Favorites Bar already (including Celine, but I am not big on her for there is no closed caption).
To the right of the link you supplied is a series of singers on the song. I have them all. Kelly Clarkson shows flash in hers; Avril Lavigne is atrocious and should NOT be viewed at all.
Here is one I love that you may not have seen.
It lacks closed caption, but the message is delivered a new way. I bet you will agree.
Full screen and for those of you who can hear, full blast:

What can I ever say to give complete credence? But there are certain selections that stand out for me.
Religious: “Huron Carol” as performed by Catherine McKinnon and played often on Toronto’s AM 740 (CFZM). If I weren’t made aware of this Canadian talent, I would almost be forced to guess between Anna Maria Alberghetti and Julie Andrews.
Ballad: “Christmas Auld Lang Syne” as sung by Bobby Darin from around 1960. The first time of two I sing along each year, I tend to get misty-eyed.
Comedy: 1964′s “The 12 Gifts of Christmas” from Allan Sherman’s perspective. Hearing The Partridge Family on a Japanese transitor radio makes for the best of both worlds with my 1st Day gift.
