Erie’s YouTube stars

In this era of delusional non-singers chanting, “I am the next American Idol,” you can become an international media celebrity with a digital video camera and a hook.

These days it’s the entertainment media seeking out the viral stars of YouTube. Whether its Obama Girl, Charlie who bites his brother’s finger, or Pearl evicting Will Farrell, you can become part of the modern media Illuminati if your video catches on.

Even in good old Erie, Pennsylvania. So…who are our YouTube stars?

The most viewed YouTube video originating from Erie that we can actually show on a “family blog” stars one of the celebrites at the Erie Zoo; a baby red panda. With almost 220,000 views, this cutie is irresistible!

Perhaps the most prolific YouTube producer from Erie is Christian Lestat Bussiere and his Spotlight TV. He has created over 560 videos on his YouTube channel, including one where he gets beat up by a girl that’s been viewed 40,000 times (adult language warning).

Only in Erie would an electrical transformer be a superstar. This short video, complete with its 60 cycle hum has been viewed 64,000 times!

Having a NFL Defensive Most Valuable Player in a starring role doesn’t hurt when you want to get YouTube hits. Local producer RealTruthTV has gotten 12,000 views on this training video.

A very moving video documents the Bald is Beautiful fundraising campaign at Iroquois High School from the spring of 2007 They raised funds for leukemia victim Victoria Boriety, who passed away late last year from her illness. Meanwhile her story has been viewed over 136,000 times.

Finally, why not have Erie herself be the star. This “Love Erie” campaign commercial has gained over 7,000 views and really makes the case well for our fine community.

In simple times growing up in Erie, PA, child imaginations could be fired up with popsicle sticks and a good rain.
The popsicles sticks became great shipping vessels travelling the world……all the way down the gutter to the end of 2nd and Sassafras St., when a deft catch would retrieve the sailing ship from death-by-sewer, and carry it back to the middle of the block and take a new adventure.

Today’s young minds explore the whole world in virtual, and reality, expanding the possibilities of imagination.

Here is a local production I have watch, wondering if the kids just wanted to see the top of their school, or if future terrorists would incorporate the idea to scout targets.

An entire story could be written in the ETN on that Tube view and the one who filmed and uploaded it.

Another simple view of Erie, PA….as it was, and as it is…

One of the difficulties with YouTube is Closed Caption.
CC is not transferred from TV to Digital for some technological reason, tho I believe it is required by law.
The law has not caught up with the Internet yet.

I do not hear anymore. But I can lip read and employ vibrations. Start a catalog of any song you can think, or recall. I have folders on Rock, Christian Music, Groups, American bandstand, Classics, Jazz, you name it.
All are readily viewable at a click —YOU can even hear them!

Comments incorporated below the snippet are revealing too. The group Chicago performed “25 or 6 to 4″ four decades ago next year. Just like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds had more theories than the JFK assassination, “25 or 6 to 4″ did too. Comments explores that and concludes it was a reference to time:
    “25 or (2)6 minutes to 4am”….3:35am or 3:36am…..
just before the break of Daa-aay.
What a novel way to express it.

Turn on your transistor radio and tune into CKLW out of Detroit (actually, I think it was a suburb…Dearborn? or in Canada?) and recall this one:

The lightning opening and drumroll are an instant beat in the memory of anyone who ever heard the song.

You Tube will evolve when the kids get older and into business and realize the ability to market their workplace….while having all the fun of THEIR youth come alive at work.

    Good post Joel.

Here’s one of mine that has gained quite a bit more momentum than the rest. Clearly, depression is a big issue!
