Well, I don’t have any top secrets to share. Not unless you count Radio Connection. It provides a matchmaking service for those who want to work in radio. You want to work at a jazz station, they’ll match you with a mentor and get you trained. You want to work in hip hip, pop, gospel, country http://www.radioconnection.com That would be my top secret. It’s success rate us seriously high!
How is WQLN-TV doing since converting to a Digital only signal?? Have there been any angry viewers? Have viewship levels changed? How has the Digital signal held up? Just curious…
Well not too bad since WQLN is back on various cable systems and Dish Network. There are some problems with over the air reception in some areas due to the temporary antenna that is up only about 325 ft instead of the 700+ the regular antenna is at. No word as to when or if the regular antenna can be repaired or replaced.
We are Erie’s newest and (most positive) newspaper. We print 10,000 copies weekly and are completely unorthodox in our distribution methods. We distribute in high volume restaurants & bars, hotels, bowling alleys, laundromats, beer distributors as well as grocery stores and well attended events. We have a graphic artist who puts the paper together (and makes us look good). Other than that, it is just us 2 crazy gals on a shoestring budget with lots of moxie doing the rest. We want to be more interactive in our community and are looking for writers and a webmaster who can work for peanuts & glory. (Our website is NOT currently up to date) We want to be a new voice for non-profits and small businesses. We appreciate your giving us a forum to get our word out. Drop us a line (we also have free classified ads for personal items and a Community Calendar) or give us a call. We look forward to hearing what you think! Thanks.
Does anyone know if there is an out of town station(receivable in Erie) that is carrying the Steeler game Sunday?
Jimbo,
I’m sure that if you cannot find a radio station in the area broadcasting the Steeler game, there are plenty of online streaming options. I’ve found the graphics available from nfl.com’s online football field to be quite entertaining. Is Santa bringing you a new laptop with wireless internet and lots of memory?
I think WUZZ-FM/94.3 from Meadville carries the Steelers games. Check to see if you can receive 94.3 FM on your radio. Read more here: http://www.mywuzz.com/stfootball.
Also, WFXJ-FM/107.5 “The Fox” from the Ashtabula-North Kingsville area broadcasts the Browns games in addition to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Read more here: http://www.thefox1075.com/cgi-bin/feeds/front/newsscript.pl?record=4.
Coincidentally, both stations play classic rock music. The games are even on FM, instead of AM.
I got home late this morning, around 3 AM, and I had the television on. WJET TV, TV 24, was featuring a movie that I had really enjoyed seeing in the past, Galaxy Quest starring Tim Allen and a very beautiful Sigourney Weaver. I was so engrossed in the movie for more than half an hour, that I didn’t realize….
The Bug. The Digital On-Screen Graphic (DOG). The little Channel ID logo in the bottom right corner of the screen…. It was GONE. It did not come back. It did not fade. It did not appear in any other place on the screen. It did not screen for attention. WJET simply removed it from the screen, perhaps for the benefit of local programming and local programming viewers who are up at 3 AM. Kudos to JET TV for leading the way to better television viewing!
At last, The Clear Screen approach was demonstrated on local Erie TV, albeit at 3 o’clock in the morning, but even in the wee hours of the morning, it gives me hope that the TV folks can really take advantage of HD technology by giving the entire screen back to the audience.
Online football is infinitely better than TV.
I cannot find programming anywhere. That would fall under customer service, an antique notion. However, the broadcasts are active, not passive.
It is as if you are in the TV Control Room.
Your main screen has 4 smaller screens in the four corners. By moving your mouse to any of the 4 corner broadcasts (same game), that picture becomes your main screen.
While TV is covering a huddle, I scoot over to the opponent’s side and see how they are prepping…
or the cheerleaders if it is Oakland or Miami playing.
When ads come on TV, the football stadium stays on all five pictures as if you are at the game. The camera generally walks through the team and you see the intensity and how banged up everyone is. There are no stars on the sideline; only a team.
The cheerleaders are often caught in “downtime” mode and become real people at the game.
When zebras review a challenge, all four corners are broadcasting an array of views; the characters in dispute, fans on both sides, surprise up close face shots of the team players — you can read their lips .
On TV, it is showing a hooded zebra, and the two coaches for a reaction to the ruling. Boring.
Online broadcasts a lot on Sunday Night and Thursday odd games. Monday Night too, but I don’t watch much MNF. The best games on a given Sunday that everyone wants to watch are still magically locked up and hidden from the customers.
Last, when you are done playing TV control room guy online, you can go full screen and enjoy a solo shot, or revert back to the control room with your ESC button.
For golf, watch the Masters online next year. All 4 days are shown. You choose the hole you want to see. The player board is at your service anytime. And the broadcast quality is the best I have ever seen.
