Dennis Miller replaces Rush on WJET

UPDATED: It appears now that the 18 year run of Rush Limbaugh on WJET 1400 has ended. P&T commenter Terry was told by a Connoisseur representative that Rush was dropped in favor of Dennis Miller because the show had become “too expensive.” WJET is running the Miller show on “tape delay” as it originates live from 10 AM – 1 PM ET.

Unless Connoisseur plans on turning one of their FM’s to talk, it seems that they just removed their greatest audience and revenue driver off of their schedule. Does WJET go from first to worst on the AM dial?

************

Older: Tuning in to WJET 1400 for my usual daily dose of Rush around lunchtime and a new show with a host named Dennis is there talking about their new affiliation on WJET. Where’s Rush?

It’s taken me twenty minutes to figure out what the show was, and it is the Dennis Miller show from Westwood One.

Waiting for a official response to e-mails to CM-Erie management…developing.

930 AM or 760 AM. Bad move Connie.

I managed to reach WJET and was told by the woman who answered that the decision was made because the program had become “too expensive.” Since, as I understand Premiere’s fee structure, the rates for the program are based on market size, I have to wonder how much “too expensive” really is. I also have to wonder how the actual cost of dropping Limbaugh for Dennis Miller compares to “too expensive.” Even if Miller is bartered, the audience loss would have to be significant, so getting something for nothing but attracting no audience would not seem to be a sound business decision in comparison to paying for something that has to attract the largest audience for WJET for any day part.

The decision to drop Rush was a big mistake. I guess it’s time to sign up for Sirius!!

  4. Paul says:

    SAME HERE, I will tune 760, 1100, 930.

  5. Tim says:

I’m gonna tune to 760 or 930 (depending on atmospherics) for my daily “Rush” fix! Bad move, Connie! REAL Bad, Stupid, Dumba** move!!!!!

With all due respect to David Berchtold this is the death knell for this AM station!

Dennis Miller’s cutesy hip approach is just too over the top for me. I like his politics and viewpoint, but Rush is much more straightforward and enjoyable than Miller’s schtick.

I’ll be joining the rest of the blog posters down south on the AM band to stay with the loveable little fuzzball.

    Mixed feelings.
I liked to listen to Rush but then I’m also a fan of Miller. I think talk radio is all going to be on satellite or internet radio anyways once the fairness doctrine is back in place. They can demand radio stations carry both view points, but they can’t make you listen to them. And I thought putting Jimmy on in the mornings with that liberal **edit** Stein- what’s his name was a bad idea. I do not listen to wjet 1400 in the morning at that time, at all.

In the mid 90′s, Flagship 1330 was trying hard to get Limbaugh to jump ship from WLKK. Limbaugh stayed loyal to 1400.
Loyalty to his affiliates is why he isn’t on satellite (yet) and why he doesn’t offer free streaming on his website.
Too bad his loyalty wasn’t rewarded.
It may stun some people, but I don’t believe (oh no!) the excuse offered by Connie management.
If you can’t make a profit selling the highest rated syndicated talk show in America, then you’re in the wrong line of work.
In my opinion, this decision wasn’t about profit, it was about politics.
Limbaugh won’t notice the loss of this lemonade stand of a radio station and neither will anybody else.

You can also get Rush on 570 WKBN (Youngstown) or WTAM 1100 (Cleveland) or even down the road in Meadville on WMGW 1490. If the show is too expensive for Erie, I wonder if ‘MGW and the “Allegheny News Talk Sports Network” of stations will also drop Rush. My guess is not likely, but you never know.

I said it once and I’ll stand by it again. I’d really love to see something really great happen for the AM 1400 frequency in Erie. I really think JET 14 should return to it’s roots and get music back on the air. Of course, I lean torwards and Oldies format, but the music they had on JET FM would be suitable. The phrase “Retro JET” had a neat ring to it.

Jazz it up with some old jingles, some LIVE personailities, and hey, we’ve got a product that would give Rush some competition. I always thought JET Radio was too good for the likes of a Mr. Rush Limbaugh, anyways.

I’ll go on record saying that if I can’t see Rush behind the center window, then he doesn’t belong here.
