I was listening to Classy 100 last evening (Saturday night) and heard the station promoting the upcoming switch to Christmas music next week. If you don't remember, the adult contemporary station went all Christmas last year. However, I doubt that there will be a format change since the station does well in the Erie Arbitron ratings.

In many markets, all Christmas is a prelude to an upcoming format change. Let that format wheel spin!

Ever since the massacre of the Frog, Christmas Music on a radio station has bad memories for me. I wonder which Erie station will emerge from a temporary All-Christmas format to a new completely revised and fully automated format? Count those coins, Ebaneezer!

The snow made my kids so excited for the holidays ( we are still lucky enough to have Santa visit our house) My older son played some Christmas on his computer and then he and my youngest son danced like crazy, cheering on Christmas. It was so sweet that it made me ready for more. The Christmas decorations in stores before Halloween really p*ssed me off though!

Personally I don't think Christmas music should start till after Thanksgiving...and then only a smattering of tunes (2-3 per daypart)...ramping up the number the closer we get to Christmas Day. The thing is that many stations go all Christmas early because it's shown that it can help give a boost to late fall ratings (although the fact that this year the ARB survey period ends earlier on 12/10 may negate that effect). Plus advertisers like it because it can get people in a Holiday buying frame of mind. And this year they're going to need all the help that they can get.
