Two races make Thursday “must see TV”

Amazing races of two different kinds have made tonight an evening of appointment television (or radio if you prefer).

First, at 7:00 PM on WQLN-TV & FM and simulcast on WJET-TV, it will be the final and only live televised debate between the candidates for the Third Congressional District of Pennsylvania: incumbent Phil English and challenger Kathy Dahlkemper. Kim Young of WQLN will moderate this last meeting of the candidates, where Dahlkemper is running the strongest race against the veteran English in over a decade.

After the debate, a round table discussion and analysis will continue on WQLN-FM. But you just might be moving on to the next station on this must see TV train. At 8:00 on Fox 66, it’s Game 2 of the 2008 World Series live from Tampa Bay where the Rays host the Philadelphia Phillies.

The drama behind this World Series is the Cinderella story of the expansion team Rays, where in the 1990’s they built a stadium as a Field of Dreams, hoping to lure Major League Baseball to bring a major league team to St. Petersburg. Over the years, Tampa Bay finished every season in last place, except in 2004, and this year when they won their division, entered the playoffs for the first time and then went on to win the ALCS. Pennsylvania loyalties may have you rooting for Philadelphia, but you have to give props to the young Ray team who are having an amazing season.

Whether it’s Phil or the Phillies or both, get ready for some good watchin’! You betcha’!

The debate info has changed. It will not air on Wednesday due to Obama’s speech that night. I’ll keep you posted.
