Last week we asked about your next technology purchase. The largest percentage said they would be buying a flat-screen HDTV. The next two most popular purchases were a gaming console and Blueray DVD player.
This week, I want to get your opinion about the media coverage of the presidential race. On Wednesday the Pew Research Center released an analysis of how the press reported the 2008 campaigns of Barack Obama and John McCain. Their opening statement says it all:
“The media coverage of the race for president has not so much cast Barack Obama in a favorable light as it has portrayed John McCain in a substantially negative one, according to a new study of the media since the two national political conventions ended.”
What do you think? Has the press been down the middle or biased either way.
Has the presidential election media coverage been biased?
- Yes...the media has favored Barack Obama. (76%, 35 Votes)
- No...the media is playing it right down the middle. (15%, 7 Votes)
- Yes...the media has favored John McCain. (9%, 4 Votes)
Total Voters: 46

The Fox Network is so far into the tank for Mccain it becomes sickening, however NBC is pushing the Obama ticket. The Republican oriented Erie Times News just endorsed Obama. the Anchorage Alaska newspaper just endorsed Obama and the list goes on and on.
Just a thought, perhaps it’s not biased, maybe these organizations (other then Fox) realize who the better candidate is and are not afraid to cross Party lines.
A person only perceive the media as biased if it differs from his/her own opinion.
While Fox News may be biased toward McCain, the rest of the news orgs NSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS (big time), CNN, Hdln News. Then there’s the print media all the large newspapers are in the tank for Obama bec they hate Bush. Remember 1 well off persom will buy one paper and 70 out 100 middle class or lower will either buy or read the paper. The print media is going with the numbers. Obama promises everything to the lower end of the populace. 100,000,000 to get tax cuts.
Same goes for the periodicals. Its a numbers game.
McCain is going with logic and Obama is going after emotion. Promising utopia in the guise of “change”. Only problem is it will be change for the worse.
I also forgot to mention the Erie TIMES NEWS is about as liberal and in the tank for Democrats as the NY or LA
Times.
I would like to reinterate two sentances in two different posts.
A person only perceive the media as biased if it differs from his/her own opinion.(Jim G)

I will add one more quote. Logic is not having 4 more years of the “SAME OLD THING”.
“Logic is not having 4 more years of the ‘SAME OLD THING’”.
I’m afraid that many are using that line above as a reason to not vote for McCain, instead of looking for reasons to vote for Obama. That’s the wrong line of reasoning to vote for someone. Tell me why to vote Obama, instead of using negativity against Bush as the reasoning for it.
How about OPTIMISM beats NEGATIVITY.
How about YOUTH over SENIOR CITIZEN PLUS.
How about VISION over BLINDNESS (To the MIDDLE CLASS).
In 1992 92% of 3000 reporters surveyed voted for Bill Clinton twice that of the population ( Ross Perot threw it that year) So because Fox News doesn’t run the liberal party line you get upset? We can show that Fox stands out because it is the only network not totally for Obama. Unless you’d really like to claim the media is neutral and that Fox News is the only one with a bias?
I think it is great that these mainstream outlets are all losing viewers and therefore ad dollars. LA Times just laid off 75 more people ( on the same day they refuse to release a video tape of Obama and the PLO spokeman together) I think that is a delicious coincidence.
So ( to follow Jimbo)
Inexperience beats Experience?
Higher taxes beats lower taxes?
Killing babies beats letting them live?
I hope you have lots of wealth to spread Jimbo!
Spoken like a true conservative, following the PARTY LINE(whether it be right or wrong)
Just think this will all be over in 6 days.
I am a conservative first, I don’t follow the party line. I am mad as hell about the (thankfully) averted amnesty for 20 million illegal aliens, The HUGE growth of government with the Medicare Part D, The bailout in all its forms. McCain was not my candidate. I think it is no surprise that the first full election cycle after McCain-Fiengold that it was 3 sitting Senators vying for the Presidency.
I hope you are right that it is over in 6 days, I lived in Florida during the 200 election and let me tell you that was awful. I can’t wait until we return the the local topics, I am not from Erie and I learn a ton on these forums.
Like I think Voltaire said ” I may disagree with what you say but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it. “
Heavy D. Well said.
