Based on the numbers that WRIE had before they yanked Music of your Life for ESPN, I think a LOT of people would welcome a standards/nostalgia format on 1450.

The promotion stunt sure worked with all the speculation. I do recall an urban station that was on 1400 when Jet moved to 102.3 back in ‘86. WBLQ “Q-1400″ was urban in AM Stereo as well. During that time, WERG also dropped Super Soul Saturday since a full time urban station was on the air. I think it lasted 11 months before going country with the WLKK call letters and WERG brought back “Super Soul Saturday.” As for WPSE, it is very narrow with it’s business talk format. Most people now watch CNBC or can get business info online with their phones. It would seem as though WPSE could get a larger audience with oldies, classic country or nostalgia.

So when are you buying a radio station, Joel? I’m just kidding, but it does sound like you have a plan.

I’d love to see something different on WPSE. It really is not serving the community as well as it could if the format (business news/talk) appealed to a wider audience. What happened to “broadcasting” on the station; it seems as if 1450 is “narrowcasting” instead.

I’ve always thought that a Smooth Jazz/Urban AC FM with the syndicated Tom Joyner Radio Show would do decent shares in Erie. The problem for Connie Media is being careful of any station that would flank negatively their cash cows in Star and Rocket. Of course Citadel could dump the underperforming Z for a new format, but if they bill well on 102.3 they won’t take the risk.

I understand now, Joel. Aimee was trying to indicate “gas station,” not “radio station.” It was clever and did get our attention. A few listeners (see my previous comment) even called in, wondering what was going to happen to 93.9 The Wolf. Could Erie use an urban music radio station, anyways?

If I am going to listen to an automated music formatted radio station…. why do I even need to turn the radio on? I already have an iPod.

And it seems to me that I’ve heard this crazy rumor concerning the death of radio.
