Why was it when I was watching a commercial break last night for SNL, and after the WICU station ID, it cut to static? What happened?
I also noticed that i wonder if the weather had anything to do with it
We’re back up Monday @ 5 PM after about 17 hours of not working in Internet Explorer, but still ok in Firefox and Safari.
Note to bloggers using WordPress (not including WordPress.org sites):
even though there is a function in your “write post” panel that allows pasting from Microsoft Word, don’t do it, because it keeps the Word tags and blows up your blog in IE. You’ve got to paste into Notepad (or some plain text editor) then into the “write post” text block.
Bigger note to all bloggers: just a reminder that your blog looks very different from browser to browser. It’s a good idea to download all available browsers for your operating system so you can make sure you are able to be read.
It was rather refreshing this evening to see an ad for Jane Earll that talked only about…Jane Earll. Imagine that…no mention of an opponent. What a revolutionary concept. Wonder if it will catch on?
No way will it catch on. The concept of tearing down your opponent is easier to defend when the masses believe your rhetoric and elect you. Now you have no campaign promises to keep.
It appears this is the norm and it should be stopped.
The negative ads make me either tune out or hit the mute button every time one comes on. While they are good for TV and radio revenue, the ads on every level are just too vile. I can see the following air with one week to go. Obama Ad: “Do you want some old geezer like John McCain to be your next President?” McCain Ad: “Barrack Obama, a young inexperienced whippersnapper who just has the training wheels taken off of his bicycle last week. ” I too wish the ads would go back to the type Jane Earll is airing. Politicians should talk about their experience and plans in office rather than tearing their opponent down.
I wonder what will happen to the local TV stations once the Election is over and all the ads (and the accompanying revenue stream) go BYE BYE?
WICU seems to have the most to lose from the end of Election ad spending. Channel 12 starts their 5pm newscast at 5:01:30 just to squeeze in as many political ads as possible. I have also noticed they end the 6pm newscast at 6:27:30 to also squeeze in as many political ads before Nightly News. This is, of course in addition to those days when WICU doesn’t even air a news cut-in during the Today show at 7:26am and 7:56 am.
The other stations don’t seem to cut newscast air time as much as Channel 12 has been doing lately, although I could be mistaken?
I wonder if the rumored move of WSEE to the WICU building at 35th & State has anything to due with Channel 12’s increased desire to get as much revenue as possible out of the presidential election cycle???
Elly McVay is awesome!
Big News! If you have been listening to 93.9 The Wolf this morning, Aimee Clemson is saying that “We are going to a new station at noon.” Listeners will get more information when they listen in at 8:50 this morning regarding what is happening at noon.
A caller asked Clemson what is going on, and she said that he will have to check in toward the end of her morning show to find out. However, she did ask him what he thinks is going on, and the listener said they might be changing the “numbers,” as in what frequency the station broadcasts on (moving the format to a different frequency, for example from 93.9 to 94.7). Then, she asked him if he will tune in if the station goes “urban.” This is not “Keith Urban,” a country artist, but an urban music format.
What is Connoisseur Media doing now down at the Boston Store? Will 93.9 become yet another station?
Let’s look at the station’s history: On October 15, 2001, 93.9 signed on the air as a new radio station in the area, becoming the first station to go on the air with a studio in Boston Store. It debuted as “The New Planet Radio 93.9″ (WRPL) with an active rock format. Then, it adopted a new format around April 22, 2003, identifying itself as “The Home for Today’s Country and the Legends, U.S. 93.9″ (WUSE) before shifting its focus to new country and rebranding as “The New 93.9 The Wolf” (WTWF) on July 31, 2006.
If the station adopts a new format today, 93.9 The Wolf will have lasted for a little more than two years. What will happen to Aimee Clemson and other personalities?
Let’s see how the situation develops. Urban music format for Erie?
I forgot to add this:
This means that Country 98 WXTA will no longer have to “fight” with the Wolf for listeners if the station changes its format.
Doug, I think Aimee Clemson gave us all the “Bronx cheer” with that cute “moving to a new station” tease for the gas giveaway promotion at the KwikFill station, complete with hip-hop music in the background of the announcement.
I spent the whole ride to school talking to my kids about where the Wolf might end up, even to 1330. She snookered us.
Good form, Aimee…we deserve it!
and it ain’t even April Fools Day!!
One thing that I admired about another Boston Store radio personality, Mr. Johnny Marx, is that he was able to switch from Star 104 to US 93.9. Even though, I was never with the Star crowd or the Country folk, the abilities of Mr. Marx to switch from one format to another and be knowledgeable about both really impressed me. Unfortunately, the talent of a human personality cost money.
Whatever the NEW change is going to occur on the Wolf, I suspect that it might involve heavy reliance on Bob’s cousin/brother/third uncle once removed…. a computer. I have a hunch that we’re going to see more and more of the computers down at the Boston Store.
For this reason, I am a long time Erie Radio listener with a “torch” in front of Franken-Bob’s window.
If I am going to listen to an automated music formatted radio station…. why do I even need to turn the radio on? I already have an iPod.
And it seems to me that I’ve heard this crazy rumor concerning the death of radio.
I understand now, Joel. Aimee was trying to indicate “gas station,” not “radio station.” It was clever and did get our attention. A few listeners (see my previous comment) even called in, wondering what was going to happen to 93.9 The Wolf. Could Erie use an urban music radio station, anyways?
David: Your iPod won’t do crossfades like the radio stations.
I’ve always thought that a Smooth Jazz/Urban AC FM with the syndicated Tom Joyner Radio Show would do decent shares in Erie. The problem for Connie Media is being careful of any station that would flank negatively their cash cows in Star and Rocket. Of course Citadel could dump the underperforming Z for a new format, but if they bill well on 102.3 they won’t take the risk.
So when are you buying a radio station, Joel? I’m just kidding, but it does sound like you have a plan.
I’d love to see something different on WPSE. It really is not serving the community as well as it could if the format (business news/talk) appealed to a wider audience. What happened to “broadcasting” on the station; it seems as if 1450 is “narrowcasting” instead.
an urban station would do wonders i mean Super Soul Saturday on WERG is great and all but that is one day out of the week but the downside is WRTS would lose some of the remaining listeners do to the fact 1 out of 10 songs played is some how urba
The promotion stunt sure worked with all the speculation. I do recall an urban station that was on 1400 when Jet moved to 102.3 back in ‘86. WBLQ “Q-1400″ was urban in AM Stereo as well. During that time, WERG also dropped Super Soul Saturday since a full time urban station was on the air. I think it lasted 11 months before going country with the WLKK call letters and WERG brought back “Super Soul Saturday.” As for WPSE, it is very narrow with it’s business talk format. Most people now watch CNBC or can get business info online with their phones. It would seem as though WPSE could get a larger audience with oldies, classic country or nostalgia.
Based on the numbers that WRIE had before they yanked Music of your Life for ESPN, I think a LOT of people would welcome a standards/nostalgia format on 1450.
