Shannon Solo no longer howling at The Wolf

Shannon Solo, widely regarded as the King of All Erie Media, for his multiplicity of talents in radio, television, theatre, music, and film, has been released from the morning show of WTWF (93.9 The Wolf). Melissa, the morning sidekick, is also reportedly gone.

Messages from The Press and Tower with either Solo or officials at Connoisseur Media were not immediately returned.

Wednesday morning drive on The Wolf was filled with liners and jingles, which when you mix with the voice tracked midday show and satellite evening block makes for quite the lackluster jukebox.

With the Fall 2008 ratings period beginning today, and WTWF’s sixth-place showing in the Spring book, Solo’s departure Tuesday fuels speculation of a format change. Could All-Beatles, or All-Christmas be next?

UPDATED: Message from David Calabrese, General Manager, Connoisseur Media, Erie, PA – Sept. 18, 2008 @ 9:30 AM ET:

Connoisseur Media has a commitment to our stations and the community. We strive to consistently improve ourselves in every possible area. We wish Shannon and Melissa the very best in their future endeavors but have decided to head in a different direction.

Starting Monday morning, we will welcome a new personality, Aimee “The Outlaw” Clemson to 93.9 the Wolf. Aimee has a long history in Erie Country radio, having worked for many years at Country 98 in mid days and often AM drive with the late “Uncle” Fred Horton. We are excited about this new direction for the station and hope that it demonstrates our commitment to our product and Country radio in Erie, PA.

Sounds like they’ll keep up the fight for the Country listener in Erie, PA.

I for one think Aimee is doing a fine job. Im sure she had nothing to do with the decision to let go solo and melissa.

  2. Shari says:

I stopped listening to Froggy when BOB came along. I followed Shannon to the Wolf. I WILL NOT LISTEN TO AMY. I guess it will be Country 98 from now on. Great move…. now maybe you can put the station totally under. OH…and I do have XFM – I wasn’t going to renew…now I will.

  3. Chris says:

It doesn’t matter if Aimee had a decision or not, which most likely did not happen.. It’s the fact that she was rude to so many people on the other station, then came on the wolf, and I may add the most listened to country station in the city…I haven’t tuned in and I really do not care. I’ll listen to my country CD’s.

  4. Patricia says:

I agree to the petition, haha!

  5. Loryn says:

hey Raggy wow you need to relax! Shannon doesn’t have a voice on the radio and posts a couple of comments (as have you) and you’re upset? sounds to me like jealousy.
‘his variety of hairstyles’ I guess at least you’re watching.
this is still America and just like you, he has freedom of speech. so go ahead lay into me to but bigger things are awaiting Mr. Solo

  6. jenn says:

This thread started out about Solo but has turned into a thread about Aimee, I guess she is already doing what she was hired to do!!! Love her or hate her you’re all talking about her! Good job Aimee!!!!

  7. Nic says:

    Melissa:

I drive to Erie from Corry every day for work and I listened to you and Shannon every day (I even won your trivia contest 3 times). I was out of town for a couple days and when I returned, you were gone! Are you coming back? Please tell me you are just on vacation! It just isn’t the same without you!

    Nicole

  8. Karen says:

I listen at work and on the way everyday and Miss you two. I loved your Trivia and you always made me laugh! Hope they bring you back. Not much of an Amy Fan

  9. Erie Radio Insider says:

C’mon! Have you people really been listening to the same station I have for the last 2 years? Does Shannon being peeved that no one recognized him in a Dollar Store constitute “good morning radio?” Or how about when they discussed the ingredients in Melissa’s hand lotion or how to make ham loaf? Or my personal favorite when they promoted having an “exclusive interview” with someone coming up on a Monday, and the interview was with Shannon himself! I wanted to call up and ask what it was like to be a morning show host, weather guy, actor, and singer… and really not be good at any of them!
I feel bad for Melissa… she had to put up with Shannon and his big head everyday and really never had a chance to shine.
I heard they called Carrie Leigh to come back. THAT would have been the smartest move they could have made.
And no one is questioning who Amiee’s partner will be… they won’t leave her by herself. There are a few men waiting in the wings with strong possibilties… too bad none of them are excited about working with her!

  10. Patricia says:

That comment, pure jealousy. Do you know how many people liked to hear about their real lives and what was going on… I appreciated everything they said, it’s like they brought us into thier lives which makes people listen. Haven’t listened to the Wolf since they unfairly let them go.

  11. Reality Check says:

Erie Radio Insider = Typical Erie Mentality
Erie is just amazing isn’t it? That’s it everyone. Fall into that typical Erie Mentality and listen to this (so called critic) trash talk. Whoever the Erie Radio Insider clown(s) is, you fit right in with this town. It seems like everyone worries more with what the other is doing or did rather than trying to push your own damn self forward. Nice. **edit** Keep your hurtful opinions to yourself, sit down in your lazyboy **edit**. Get fat and sit in front of your computer looking for someone else to step on while they are down. Idiot. This is why I choose not to live in Erie. Folks like you. No heart, no soul, just throwing stones. Yes, I am throwing stones now because it is time for your Reality Check. Oh, have a good evening.

  12. Erie Radio Insider says:

The truth hurts, doesn’t it? That can be your reality check.

  13. Reality Check says:

If the words you spoke were the truth, then it would hurt. Opinions are not the truth. So take your reality check to the bank with that. Smile, I’m sure someone loves you. That was just my opinion, doesn’t mean it was the truth does it? Why don’t you spend your time doing your own thing rather than wasting it being a so called critic? The truth hurts, doesn’t it? Maybe you should think before you type. Truth means agreement of the facts or with reality. That means everyone agrees. Opinion, one’s own thought. Using the word truth, well, I’m not too sure if you understand the concepts. Maybe you should have said, “the opinion hurts, doesn’t it? that would have worked better. Unless you think you are God.

  14. Erie Radio Insider says:

Fact: they talked about the ingredients in hand lotion and ham loaf.
Fact: they promoted a big interview with Shannon himself.
Fact: Shannon was peeved no one recognized him at the dollar store.
Pick up a book on braodcasting… is that what makes a good morning show?
Fact: The show stunk, Melissa is an innocent victim, and they’ve been replaced.
I’ll be the bigger person and not personally attack you.

  15. Reality Check says:

    Hahaha. Ok.

#1 You stated the show stunk. Hmm, does everyone agree? If not, it isn’t a FACT!!!

#2 Melissa is a great personality (my opinion, I didn’t state fact) Also, a bigger person? You just contradicted yourself. Your quote ” I’ll be the bigger person and not personally attack you. ” <<<<isn’t this saying that you are bigger than I am? Sounds like a personal attack to me. (My opinion) I do apologize for the name calling in the first of my posts. Erie mentality fires me up sometimes and I handled it too aggressively. Shannon is a great personality also (my opinion). From what it sounds like, Melissa is a dear friend of yours, I admire your defenses. The only thing I despise are the put downs. The personal attacks towards Shanon. Even if you are targeting Shanon. He is a victim too. Does that make one a bigger person to put someone down like that?

  16. shannon says:

I know I need row row your boat raggy’s permission first but dont know how to reach him..sorry
..Melissa and I went to the store and someone recognized me..we went another time and no one did so we made a joke about it..why would i be peeved?
yes we discussed things about us as real people for the audience to relate to and connected with people..just not the ones who received the ratings diaries..I’m proud of the friends and fans we made and the positive things we did for people and families whether it was for the troops or the childrens miracle network..if you’re going to attack me I can take it trust me..but when everyone in management is telling you the show is good perhaps you should also save a word or two for them..
(not hiding behind an anonymous name)

  17. Reality Check says:

Ok it is spelled Shannon not Shanon. I do apologize for the incorrect spelling as well.

  18. Alex A says:

I had to check this “outlaw” out. I couldn’t believe one topic could get so many comments. I see she’s pretty much despised by many. I tuned in this morning with some pre concieved notions, and was pretty sure I wasn’t going to like her. I had to come on here and say Wow! I couldn’t find one thing wrong, in fact I found myself smiling and chuckling at her teasing her co host about how “pretty he was” I continued to listen throughout the morning. Her voice was pleasent upbeat and captivating. I really think Erie has a big talent on their hands. I don’t know why I don’t remember her, then again I’ve oly been listening to Country music for a couple of years, and I don’t know why she’s so hated?? Possibly becasue she’s absolutly GREAT? I followed that link to her myspace too. Pretty good lookin for a radio chick. Amy if you read this you have a new listener. I think you r great! I sent you a msg on your page. My name is Alex maybe I’ll meet you and formally introduce myself someday soon.
My best wishes to the former morning show. I listened on occassion. I didn’t think you were bad at all, but something about Amy tells me they have made a decision to better the station. Goodluck and GodBless.

  19. Erie Radio Insider says:

Funny thing is… I never met Melissa. But you could tell that there was no chemistry between them. She was sqeltched by Shannon’s narosistic personality.
Shannon, there is no personalt attack. Hind sight is 20/20… maybe you’ll realize how the show failed.

  20. Reality Check says:

Well, it seems like you have listened to the show for the last 2 years from the comment above. If you didn’t like the show, why continue to listen? Also, how can you say that there was no personal attack? You quoted ” I wanted to call up and ask what it was like to be a morning show host, weather guy, actor, and singer… and really not be good at any of them!” (I just copied and pasted that from your comment above BTW). That sounded personal to me (my opinion). The funny thing is….I never met Shannon or Melissa. I just can’t stand the criticism and the attacks that have no meaning, but to downsize ones character. If you thought their show stunk, (yet another quote) there are several other shows on in the area I’m sure. That is when you simply turn the station and then everyone is happy. Right? Oh the quote of the day too. “She was sqeltched by Shannon’s narosistic personality.
Shannon, there is no personal attack.” hahaha. Why do you continue to contradict yourself over and over and over? That was a serious attack. Coming from someone who had to have known them to make out those accusations. Or could it be just the mentality around there has gotten far worse. I don’t know, I’m just asking, because if it is the way things get handled out there then my posting here is fruitless. You have your opinions, I have mine. there are no facts in any of this. just simply opinions.

  21. Erie Radio Insider says:

This will be my final post to Press and Tower. I have said my peace and do not need to defend it further with such rambling postings. To Shannon and Melissa… farewell. To Aimee and Chuck… best wishes.

  22. Reality Check says:

That was nicely put. Much better. Thank you Erie and good day to you……
    Sincerely Yours…..From San Francisco

  23. joel says:

ERI…I hope that you’ll stay with us and add your insights on other topics, radio and otherwise. You’re always welcome here.

  24. irene says:

I think with Aimee Clemson, the problem was that she got stale. Maybe now that she has a sidekick, they can make the show fresh and keep it from getting into a rut. But I won’t be listening.

Shannon, if you read this, just wanted to let you know I wish you all the best. If you can, please pass my best wishes on to Melissa, too.

  25. Kim says:

Hope everything’s going well… I’ll miss hearing your voice in the mornings Shannon!! :)

  26. Nathan says:

Can’t believe you guys aren’t on the wolf anymore. It was the only real morning show in Erie. Boo.
All the best with your future.

  27. Michelle says:

    hey shannon

sorry about the wolf! i miss ur show so much!!

  28. B's girl says:

It was a BIG SHOCK not to hear you 2 this morning…I listened everyday. Hate to say that they let a good thing go away…. ratings will drop… Still think ur the best…

  29. JIMBO says:

STRANGE. IF A PERSON LISTENS EVERY DAY,WHY WAS THE POST 10/3 REFERING TO THAT MORNING, AND THE SWITCHOVER WAS 9/29???

  30. erie media insider says:

I’ve talked to ppl who still don’t know Shannon and Melissa got the ax. (btw the switch to Amy was 9/22)

  31. JIMBO says:

OOPS. TIME DOES FLY WHEN YOUR HAVING FUN!!

  32. Vince says:

What happened to Matt from Country 98? Thought he was talented. Wrote all those songs about Filippi and stuff. Don’t hear any talent in Erie now doing anything like that.

  33. Pete says:

Thanks Wolf. Now I need to take two Advil BEFORE I go to work.

  34. country fan says:

I need something stronger Pete. Obviously a cost cutting move with only 1 person in the morning and what the hell makes her on ‘outlaw’ it’s boring! The only other DJ is Bobby Dee so it’s one step closer to being run by ‘Otto’(mation The gas thing is timely too with prices going down at the pump. Get ready for format flip or more likely a sell off.

  35. Pete says:

Country fan, you’re right something stronger would be good. Nyquil to go right back to sleep might be good.

  36. radio suit says:

foolish listeners and dj’s you thought we actually cared about you and the people we employ. let’s cut through the bs. it’s about more $ for us while playing you for suckers.
dont think the only 2 companies in town don’t get together for drinks and laugh while the new batch of saps at citadel wonder what happened along with the audience who will listen no matter what. we have computers that will run things and college girl interns who want the experience and will do whatever we want because we throw them a backstage pass now and then. this IS reality radio!

  37. Steve and Stephanie says:

It is always difficult for radio personalities fans to see that there favorite DJ’s are replaced, however how unfair is it to bash Aimee Clemson for accepting a job that she is truely great at.

Sure everyone makes mistakes in there life and they learn from them, I personally know Aimee and can say that not only has she grown and learned from any mistakes that some feel that she has made in her past , but that is in the past.

Aimee is a devoted mother, one of the best mothers I know and a true friend to more people than I could ever name, she loves her job and the community that that we all live in.

When I read that she only gave prizes to friends I can tell you that is so false or I would have won something, and for only letting friends request songs, wrong again, I had been in her old studio many times and the call volume was so high during her lunch hour that it was impossible to keep up, only the very determined listeners were able to get anything other than a busy signal, that tells us all that she was and is very poplular.

Her ratings were the best, how do you explain that? She is starting a new program that will grow in time to express what the listeners want.

The negative comments all seem to all have something in common, unforgiving, and vindictive.

Listen to her, give her what she deserves respect, she loves Erie and all of her listeners and I for one and all of my friends and family are only listening to the Wolf, bringing back the New and improved Aimee was the best thing that has happened to Erie Radio in the last year, and yes I am sorry that others have had to move on.

In closing the comment about “Uncle” buying her the postion you are talking about a wonderful man who lost his life way to young, Noone has bought Aimee anything she has been like many of us “at the bottom” and worked hard to make something of herself for herself and her two wonderful children.

Aimee is truely a wonderful and loving person and she would never at stage in her life would never talk or post any of the negative comments that I have read on here. I won’t be visiting this site again as I do not feel that bashing on people that you don’t even know or the things that have happened in that persons life should be publicly commented on.

You really would be lucky to have her as a mom or a friend, she is an inspiration to those of us who are lucky enough to know her. Would it not be a better world if we could say that about all people.

    Sincerely,

    Steve

  38. Mr. Rock says:

Amy she doesn’t stand a chance against Big D and Bubba!

  39. formererieite says:

As a former Erie resident I am up visiting family and friends for Thanksgiving. It’s sad to see corporate radio companies cut personalities, especially this time of year. I know a couple of them and have to comment. I listen to country and when Shannon and Melissa told me that the wolf they were told was going in a change of direction I didn’t give it much thought. Being back and listening to the morning show now I’m confused. coffee time trivia is still there but now it’s the impossible question. They still do the same entertainment features but have just re-named them. The troop salute is the soldier salute. They are still doing the office lunch giveaway etc. I guess the more things change the more they stay the same.

  40. Aimee says:

There are many exciting things to come, I can assure you of that!

Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is a great morning show. It took a year and a half to crumble and I’m not a miracle worker. It’s going to take a little while to rebuild, or maybe I should say “create” what Erie Country radio has lacked for a long time. But, we all have really great ideas that I can’t wait share in the very near future!

There’s a lot of assumptions and theories as to why I’m “solo”. The fact is I will have a co host. It has nothing to do with “budgets” (If that were the case they would’ve just let one of them go instead of both). We’re taking our time to decide on the “perfect” sidekick.

Syndication may be hot for a miniute with Big D and Bubba, but that too will fade as Local ALWAYS trumps sydication.

One more quick note… I feel terrible for all of the wonderful jocks that got axed from Citadel. I think they could’ve at least waited until after the holidays. But obviously it doesn’t surprise me! I’ve seen them do worse over there… and no I’m not talking about me. If you all even knew… RIP U.F.

I’m so grateful for being where I belong THE WOLF!. Wonderful things to come! For now bare with me… doing a Morning Show alone is A LOT to take on….

And to all my “haters” on here… Love ya! I welcome you into the studio any day to show me how it’s done. ;) I’m serious though… stop by and be my guest host for a morning… I guarantee you’ll have fun, and you might even leave liking me just a smidge ;) … Muah!

  41. joel says:

    Aimee,

We appreciate you coming on here giving us some insight on your vision for the show and for your sense of humor. This space at P&T is yours anytime.

Wishing you all the best in your sidekick search and in the “air wars.”

    Happy Holidays!

  42. Station Changer says:

So, today I made the move and changed the station. They fire Shannon and Melissa, they hire Amy, and she talks about her mom’s sex life. Nice topic. People say that Shannon and Melissa talked about stupid things. Haha, good bye wolf. I’m sure you will have plenty of listeners who want to here about your mom, Amy. Haha. (No I would not want to **edit** or be a guest on your show either)

  43. Melanie says:

Aimee the Outlaw are you Serious?? I don’t hate, I just know that your unprofessional ways and actions of the not so recent past should have banned you from the airways period!!! Why do you think 98 got rid of the liability!! I won’t be tuning into the wolf again anytime soon… Sirius is now for me, seems that noone can keep good people on their stations!!

  44. just a fan says:

great to hear Shannon on the air in Nashville! he’s good enough for them but not erie?
