Just before 6 o’clock this morning, I turned on the radio and switched to 93.9 The Wolf. A song ended, a quick recognition of the call letters and city of license in a legal ID (WTWF Fairview-Erie), and then the “Wake Up With The Wolf” song and music bed followed. Aimee Clemson came on and said good morning, read the time, and I heard someone else.
Chuck the Promo Guy, who does a show from 1 to 3 o’clock in the afternoon, read the names of artists that were playing next on the air. Although today is the first day that I have heard him on the air in the morning, he may now be part of Aimee’s morning show. In another break, Aimee introduced herself and Chuck the Promo Guy, who then read the weather, and they put a caller on the air who was happy to hear them both on in the morning. (Many people also called in last week and ended up on the air, happy about the fact that Aimee is now on the Wolf)
Last week, Bobby D, who normally does the afternoon drive show from 3 to 7 o’clock, could be heard in the background throughout the show. Apparently, he must have been in the studio to show Aimee how they make everything happen in the Boston Store studio and make sure everything was going to work alright.
I hate MLB and ESPN.
For years I have been bitching about being blacked out of Phillies games in Erie, PA.
Now, Friday I go to watch the Cubs and Brewers game on ESPN and it’s blacked out! Why in the world would that game be blacked out in Erie, PA?
I was watching Nightline tonight after Action News. I enjoy the show and I like when Martin Bashir anchors. Tonight was the usual…recap the day’s carnage on Wall Street. Then a story about a pregnant 24-year old from a good family who is addicted to heroin.
The part that made me change the channel is when the young lady injected a needed into her upper leg to inject the heroin into the bloodstream. Was this REALLY necessary to show? Do the Nightline producers think the viewing public won’t believe she is addicted UNLESS they show a needle breaking skin?
Unless I am far too squeamish I feel the scene of the needle injection was not necessary for the story to be prorerly told. Oh well, I must be on my way to becoming a prude in my middle age?!
Does Erie need a radio station with a “classic hits” format? Here’s one in Warren, Ohio: http://www.wanr1570.com
WANR 1570 is owned by Beacon Broadcasting. They also have a classic country station out of the same area near Youngstown. You can check out http://www.classiccountry940.com. It’s a simulcast of WGRP 940 out of Greenville and WLOA 1470 from Farrell, Pa.
I still long to hear a decent oldies station in Erie after 7 pm.
I JUST heard about the Press and Tower site today (thanks, Big John!)
And thank YOU, Joel, for keeping alive the interests of many Erie media faithful.

It was announced yesterday that long time Pittsburgh Pirates play by play voice Lanny Frattare has announced his retirement after 33 years. He has been with the team since 1976, which is longer than even “The Gunner” Bob Prince. Lanny made his decision after the team’s final road trip.
Certainly the end of an era with Lanny’s retirement. Anyone remember who Lanny was first paired with in 1976?
…

…
Time’s up – answer: Milo Hamilton!
All the best to Lanny in his retirement. Having been PD of WEYZ from 1988-1992, met Lanny and several front office people. Lanny is one of the most down to earth people I ever met.
Wasn’t Lanny at first along side Bob? Anyone know how long?
I remember the furor when Lanny took over; the Bucco fans were in revolt. Now three decades later, he is the highly respected veteran.
